"What's next on the agenda?" asked Cagalli before taking a sip from her water glass to refresh herself.
One of the representatives spoke next. "After the chaos that occurred back in June, we focused on assessing the damage to our cities, to Morgenroete and to the Kaguya mass driver. The cities are beginning to get back to normal and the Morgenroete facilities will eventually be up and running thanks to the Junk Guild. The Onogoro facilities are also being rebuilt as we speak. The Kaguya mass driver is another story. Since the self-destruct had been activated, we will have to spend a considerable amount of time and energy in order to get it up and running normally again."
Cagalli frowned. "How much time are we talking about?"
"Twenty months minimum. You must be aware that mass driver construction isn't very easy. The catapult has to be strong enough to be able to launch massive vessels at high velocities," replied the same representative. Cagalli gave a small sigh, letting the truth of the mass driver sink into her head.
"I would like to bring up that had Lord Uzumi abandoned his position on being a neutral nation and joined the Alliance when they made their case months ago, we could have easily avoided this disaster," murmured another representative who went by the name of Unato Ema Seiran.
She bit her tongue to prevent herself from unleashing a verbal assault upon the other man. Thankfully, one of the other representatives spoke up. "Had Lord Uzumi bargained with the Alliance, he would have turned his back on what Orb represents. A place that accepts both Naturals and Coordinators. I believe that a recess is necessary to clear our minds before we hear a report on the Kusanagi's activities for the past several months after leaving the planet."
Unato nodded. "That's a good idea. A one hour recess should be sufficient enough. Any objections?" When nobody spoke up, the representatives all got up to leave the room and stretch for a bit. "Representative Attha, may I have a word with you for a moment?"
"Very well, Representative Seiran. What do you wish to speak about?" Right now, she was exerting all her willpower not to storm out of the room while he was still there.
The elder man took a small breath before continuing. "I'm simply concerned about the welfare of the Orb Union in the future. If the Union is to be strong, then it must have a strong leadership, correct?"
Cagalli narrowed her eyes in suspicion. "That's right. What's your point?"
"Well, I was just thinking that a marriage between you and my son Yuna would be beneficial in strengthening Orb's international image. This will show that Orb has strong leaders who will not be afraid to make decisions with the best interests of our people in mind. Yuna does have great leadership abilities and would be most suitable for this role." Before Unato could continue, Cagalli interrupted him.
"With all due respect, Representative Seiran, we have other priorities that must be addressed first before we can begin talking about restructuring the Orb political environment. If you'll excuse me." Cagalli slowly got up and headed out to where Kou and Kisaka were waiting. They had both moved over to a bench a few feet away so they could rest their legs for a bit.
"Are you alright?" asked Kisaka. "We didn't see you come out when the meeting was adjourned a few minutes ago."
"Unato, that bastard!! How the hell can he still think of being friendly with the Earth Alliance?!? Argh!!" exclaimed Cagalli in frustration. "And worst of all, he even said that I should marry his son to make sure that Orb is in the right hands and all that crap!!"
"Whoa. You know...I wonder if Athrun would use his rebuilt Justice to breakdance over Unato for even proposing such an idea," murmured Kou. Cagalli started to laugh at the image of her lover's Gundam pulling out the moves on Representative Seiran.
"Thanks, I needed that. When we resume our meeting in about..." She checked the clock briefly. "...fifty four minutes, the other representatives will want to hear what the Kusanagi has been up to in space. You have your stuff with you, Kisaka?"
"I downloaded the log entries earlier on to a disk for the other representatives to review," said the man in a deep tone.
Cagalli then turned to the young Coordinator. "And Kou, you'll have to talk about how the Obsidian Abyss and how the Kusanagi got itself involved."
"Shouldn't be too difficult." Kou mentally began to prepare what he would have to say in front of the group.
