"You know, it must have been quite a bit of work setting up a secret society like the Obsidian Abyss back then," said Dearka as he played the Ace of Spades.
"What's with the interest all of a sudden?" Yzak had just grabbed a glass of water from the mess hall's fridge before he sat down and placed a 'Crazy Eight' to change the game suit to Clubs.
The pilot of the Buster Gundam played a Ten of Clubs along with a Ten of Hearts and spoke again. "Well, my mom was the one who got me into it by telling me about some of the codes used by an old secret society that established itself way back when the Anno Domini calendar was used. I think they were called Priory of Sion."
"Why should I care about an ancient Natural secret society?" No Hearts in his hand so he had to draw a card from the deck before passing his turn.
"I'm a bit more interested in the secret codes that they used in order to communicate secret top messages. If I recall, we had a course in ZAFT Academy on ancient secret codes where we learned different ways to communicate hidden messages like the Caesar Box," stated Dearka before tossing a Five of Hearts down.
"That course was mandatory, remember? We needed the background knowledge so we could be prepared to make up new top secret codes on the spot to ensure that our communications wouldn't get compromised," replied Yzak before he played a Five of Clubs.
"Well, it would be a bit of a challenge trying to crack the code of the Obsidian Abyss if we ever intercepted one of their coded messages." Yzak pondered about what Dearka said before he brought his glass of water to his lips. That was when the ship shook as a result of weapons impact, causing Yzak's face to get drenched.
The intercom came to life and Murrue's voice echoed throughout the corridors. "Red alert!! All hands to level one battlestations!! All hands to level one battlestations!!" Dearka and Yzak left their cards and scrambled to get to their mobile suits.
On the bridge of the Archangel, Murrue swore under her breath as the ship shook again from weapons fire. The CIWS had helped intercept some of the weapons fire but occasionally, the ship would take a hit. "Shipyard docking clamps are released, madam!" reported Jackie.
"We have two Laurasia-class ships without a ZAFT registry flanking us!! There are also eight GINN units launching from the ships along with...four other mobile suits! The four suits don't have any ZAFT registry on them! And they don't seem to be Earth Forces either!" exclaimed Miriallia.
"Helm, move us in a better position to better defend ourselves and the shipyard! Prepare to fire anti-beam depth charges! We've got to get some time to launch the Duel and Buster!!" ordered Murrue.
"Anti-beam depth charges have been fired!!" The defensive cloud that slowly appeared in front of the Archangel helped to decrease the energy of beam attacks, making life a little easier for the crew.
"Any luck trying to contact any ZAFT patrol units for backup?" asked Murrue.
"Something is screwing with the signal, madam!" replied Arnold. He held on to his chair as the bridge shook violently again.
Miriallia then spoke through her headset to their two pilots. "APU activated. Connected to catapult. Buster, stand by." The doors opened for the mobile suits to launch into space. "System is green. Go ahead, Dearka."
"Roger that! Dearka Elsman, blasting off!" As soon as the catapult reset itself, the Duel connected itself to it and got the go ahead from the bridge to launch.
"Yzak Joule, heading out!"
"As soon as the anti-beam cloud clears up, target one of the ships and fire the Gottfrieds!!" ordered Murrue as the crew began to reorganize itself to mount a defense. 'How the hell did those ships get the jump on us?!?'
**********
"X-102 Duel and X-103 Buster have been launched, sir."
"Have the DoMZ and GINN units keep them busy while we go after the legged ship," replied the captain of the Obsidian Abyss battleship Behemoth.
