Magitech: Brisingamen's Power [Episode 142036]

by Kestral

Brisingamen had a few powers that required specific conditions to unlock, but it did have a certain power that was on all the time unless the bearer knew how to turn it off. Even if the bearer did that, it would turn itself back on eventually. Usually at the most inopportune time.

Brisingamen, like the other True Runes, had a focus of power.

Charmed the life of Brisingamen's wearer,
In all the lands - none are fairer.
Cloaked in Spring - the bearer strides,
New growth abounds, and winter hides.

There was more of course. The Brisingamen Rune was of Beauty, Spring, and Fertility. Some would curse the Rune, others bless it, still others covet it as the most precious of things.

People just plain felt better in the presence of the rune bearer. Happier. More upbeat. In those who felt such things, passions grew stronger, moods more apt towards certain activities. Spring was mating season after all.

These urges were reigned in while Ranma was present however. He was just fourteen after all. So it was not Ranma who was the focus of such things when next they visited a village.

Here in this universe - there was no Jusenkyo, no Musk Citadel, no Chinese Amazon Village, no Phoenix Mountain. There were things that were roughly analogous, but those looking for an exact match would be out of luck. Genma and Ranma were on the coast of Norway, not China, and the village was a coastal fishing village.

It was not fourteen year old Ranma who discovered some amorous woman who had jumped the exotic traveler and getting the sheets sweaty thereafter. No, it was Genma who discovered that there were widowed women here who still had urges and for some reason those urges were being indulged over the course of a week.

Fourteen year old Ranma knew darn little of this, just that they had a lot more food in their packs as well as other supplies when they left.

Genma, on the other hand, looked positively exhausted and anxious to get the heck out of the village before something unpleasant happened.

Genma was already suspicious that something was going on, but put it down to the old Saotome charm and that he was a fairly handsome studmuffin.

When his hair started coming back in, he wasn't at all sure what to make of that. When it came in thick and luxurious and wavy, and when strange girls started running their fingers through it on odd impulses - he just put it down to the change in diet he was experiencing out here in the Norwegian countryside.

Well, that and he thanked all the kami of this land.

A year later, and he was beginning to get suspicious that maybe - just maybe - there was something going on besides the old Saotome charm being kicked into maximum overdrive. He was getting flirted with on a regular basis. Sometimes this was no problem. Sometimes this was a MAJOR problem and resulted in his fleeing a village or town ahead of a small mob. Usually this mob was composed of brothers, husbands, fiances, and so on.

Genma also memorized a phrase that he was finding useful. In German it was "Nein nein, Herr. Ich heibe keine Auslandsbeziehungen mit lhrer Tochter gehabt!" Then, when they were trying to look up unfamiliar words in their phrasebooks, he ran like a rabbit.

In Norway he'd begun his new training journey. In Sweden, he continued. On a ship in Denmark, he woke up and realized he'd missed the stop he was aiming for. In Scotland, Ireland, England, Germany, France - the strange behavior continued. Italy proved to have some ancient martial arts secrets, described in accounts from gladiatorial games. Spain was interesting, Greece had ancient martial arts as well. Sort of.

It wasn't a case of wanderlust or new leads on ancient martial arts propelling them on a two year trip through Europe. Mainly it was the outraged fathers, sons, fiances, brothers, etc.

It was in Greece that the two first encountered:
