Messin' With 40k: Thrown out the Windu [Episode 142611]

by PsyckoSama

The Cat god of Beneficial Chaos absently batted around a catnip mousey as he thought about who to send into the breach next? He went over the list of individuals they had. Coop, the pilot/eating machine/mechanic who could work with anything. Jamie, Coops obnoxious sidekick who had the potential to be a hero if pushed hard enough. Kiva the beautiful scientist from the future. The samurai known as Jack, the hero and warrior. And finally, Hotaru the sweet girl with the power to destroy worlds.

He had a decent list but he knew he needed a few more elements. A crew would be useful... just people who could help the others out. He could also use a touch of the bizarre to just drive the locals (and their crewmates) batty... but what he needed most looking at the list was an elder... a father figure to help guide them. He already had a moral compass in Jack, but what he needed was someone who possessed wisdom. Oh, and a Psyker would be useful too...

He smacked his catnip mouse across the room and smiled. He knew just the guy. A wise man with the kind of combat ability one needed to get by in the 41st millennium. The best part was he didn't even have to jerk around on this one. The guy's death was ambiguous enough that he could get away with just snatching him from the jaws of fate.

Mace Windu cried out in agony as he was thrown from the window of the chancellors office by the blast of force lightning. Ever nerve on his boy was on fire as the power of dark side seared his every nerve. It made even the agony of having his hand lopped off seems dull in comparison.

But what was even worse than the pain in his body was the agony of betrayel. Why? Why had Skywalker protected the Lord of the Sith? He had seemed so adamant in wishing his destruction. What had Palpatine used to manipulate him?

Mace winced as the air rushed by his face. He knew he would not survive the impact... the force lighting had wounded him, not only physically, but in the force. He did not have the time to recover enough strength, so all he could do was contemplate his mistake.

He should have had Anakin come with them. He knew that now. Looking back he could see it. What ever the Dark Lord had been using to manipulate him left the boy on an emotional precipice, standing on the knife's edge between the light and darkness. Anakin had come to them as a last desperate act to remain on the path of the Jedi. He had not seen it, and by telling him to remain alone and reflecting on his own problems, he had let what ever poison Palpatine planted in his mind run its course.

He opened his eyes and saw the oncoming surface of the plant, dark and foreboding, deep underneath the shining towers of the upper levels.

It would not be long now. Soon he would become one with the force. He closed his eyes, stoically accepted his fate, and fell though a convently placed micro-wormhole, courtesy of Toltiir
