Legacy of Seras: The Castle on the Plateau [Episode 143206]

by Jryu

Seras scowled as Kain hissed in pain again.

Seras could understand Kain's desire to press forward, but in her opinion, this was taking things a bit too far. Kain had insisted on leaving the mansion, and Coorhagen, as soon as the snow storm let up. Which wouldn't have been a problem, except for the snow now piled on the ground. The greaves and boots Kain wore had been designed to turn away blades and the like, not to protecting his feet from water and snow.

But despite the pain of walking, Kain insisted on moving forward.

"Look, Kain, be reasonable! If nothing else, lets find you some boots able to protect your feet in this weather..." Seras tried again.

"Be silent!" Kain roared in response.

Seras counted to ten to try and keep her own temper. Okay, Kain had a right to be a little bit angry at her. When she had accidentally cast the Indux Timor spell, it had created an aura of intense, unrelenting horror around her, that would serve to drive away even the most mindless of opponents. Kain himself, due to both his strong will and his nature, wasn't really effected... but the same could not be said for the rats, insects, and other vermin taking shelter in the abandoned mansion. Vermin that suddenly decided to vacate the mansion through any egress they could find, regardless of what, or who, was in their way.

So, yeah, she could admit that he had a right to be a bit upset. But really, this was taking things just a bit too far, in her opinion.

As the pair of vampires crested a hill just north of Coorhagen, Kain stopped, and pointed. "There is our goal, the Bastion of the Malek, Defender of the Circle, and Guardian of the Pillar of Conflict. It sits there, perched defiantly in the mountains, black as night against the snow. What manner of man would choose to live in a land so harsh and utterly devoid of life?"

Seras squinted to try and get a good view. The castle was set deep in the mountains, and it took her a moment to get a good look at exactly where the fortress was built. "What in the... Okay, how did this guy build a castle on the top of that bloody huge spire of rock?! It's sides are practically vertical!"

"When he had it built, he had at his beck and call the full power of the Circle of Nine, before they went mad. There was little the full Circle could not accomplish, when they put their minds to it."

"So how are we supposed to get up there?"

Kain shot her a withering glance. "Now that we are close enough to see it, flying to it shall not be a problem. Provided you are not utterly incompetent at that, as well." With that, Kain blurred for a moment, before transforming into bats that flew off toward the Bastion.

Grumbling to herself, Seras transformed as well, and followed.
