Legacy of Seras: Rage Against the Machine. [Episode 144242]

by PsyckoSama

Seras Victoria was angry. Very angry.

So far she and Kain had torn their way through Malek's Bastion the best they could, fighting the animated armor of long dead Sarafan knights, and smashing Malek's infernal machinery as they went along. Now, the battle and smashing she could deal with, but the taunting, now that was what was just pissing her off.

Do you hope to best me, Kain? Do not worry. Your challenge and that of your bride will not go unmet.

Your undeath does not make you immortal, vampires.

Come to slay the slayer of vampires, have you?

Yak yak yak yak… would that tin-plated bastard ever shut the hell up?

With a snarl of rage Seras back handed an on coming wrath sending its helmet flying into a back wall, and the suit of armor crashing down… at least for now.

"Damn it Kain," she growled, "Will this never end."

Kain nodded with annoyed agreement. "Yes. This is becoming tiresome." With a snarl he smashed a helmet with his mace and turned back to Seras. "These animate suits of Sarafan armor are just spirits bound to metal and leather, clumsily going through the motions they were taught in life. They lack the challenge of living opponents, as well as the sweet rewards."

Seras scowled. Sweet rewards. Usually she just shrugged off Kain's infuriating blood puns, but now, she could not help but agree. All this combat, all this damage from enchanted weaponry combined with the fact that she hadn't fed in days was sapping her strength. Already her throat was becoming dry and she could feel the bas, primal hunger gnawing at her.

Looking at Kain, she wondered how he fared.

Noting Seras's scrutiny and relative inaction, Kain scowled.

"Come," he sneered as he walked to towards the portal to the next chamber. "We must continue on before these wraith's restore themselves."

Seras scowled and shook her head in annoyance as she began to follow. Then suddenly, something caught her eye. A break in the lines of the wall. It had been concealed from common view by a tapestry, but a clumsy slash from a Sarafan Wraith had torn it, exposing the wall behind.

"Kain." She stated. "Wait."

The Vampire turned around in annoyance. "What now, woman?"

"I think I found a secret door."

Kain paused and walked back to her. "This better not be a waste of time."

Seras grinned and tore down the rest of the tapestry. Surely enough, with the cover fully removed, the presence of the door was obvious.

Kain stepped forward and looked at it intently. "Yes, there is a door…"

Looking back to Seras he remarked, "I see you are marginally capable after all."

Seras forced a smiled to her face and hissed out, "Why thank you Kain, you're not such a useless egomaniacal parasite yourself."

Kain growled and looked at the door. "Now to find the switch."

"Or you could just smash the door with your mace…" she countered.

Kain paused for a moment, then pulled out his mace, giving the door a mighty blow. The first blow disturbed the stones in the wall. The second caused a couple of them to give way. The third sent the entire hidden door crashing inwards, leaving the contents of the room clear for all to see.

Inside was a softly humming machine but unlike the others it was not built to create wraiths. Rather, it was centered around a softly glowing blue orb which seemed to crackle with eldritch energy.

"Kain, are you pondering what I'm pondering?"

Kain glanced over. "That this is the power source for those accursed machines?"

She nodded. "Lets smash the bloody thing."

Kain glanced over. "One should be careful when dealing with magical artifacts of such power… who knows what reproductions our hasty actions could bring."

Seras looked at Kain coolly.

Kain returned her stare, smiled, laughed and brought his mace down upon the orb with a mighty crunch. With its destruction, the deafening shrieks of the machines ceased to echo throughout the bastion. Behind them they heard the sound of armor hitting stone. Both turned around to see an animate suit of armor crash to the ground as the spell that bound spirit to armor was broken.

"I think its dead," Seras remarked.

"Of course it is. It wasn't alive to begin with."

Seras glared. "You know what I mean…"

"Let us move on." Kain stated calmy, "It is now time to silence the machines’ maker."

You try my patience, fledgling. Care to try my blade instead?

"Oh shut up already!" Seras replied with an irritable shriek as she stomped over to the door. When she came upon the armor she looked down upon it. Slowly a smile came to her face.

"Kain…"

"What now?"

"I need a few minutes alone..."

"What?" he hissed.

Seras looked to him and grinned. "This chain mail seems to be fitted to a woman's body and looks about my size…"
