Checking out what Sota was holding was immensely safer, and she did have a bit of a wish to understand this future world. So, as to not do anything to shock the visitors, she slipped over to where she could move without being seen, and leapt down to the ground next to where the young boy was standing.
"Ahh... Miss Sango?" Sota blurted in surprise. "I thought that you were in bed."
"I got better, and woke up since I'm not used to bedding like that. Then I saw you, and wondered what you had there," she replied.
"It's only ice cream."
"'Ice cream'? What is 'ice cream'?"
"You don't know what ice cream is?"
"Well... no, I don't."
He gave her a grin. "It's a great thing to eat. When it gets hot, or after dinner, it can be something that you'd really want to try. Though Mom says it's not good to eat too many deserts."
"Oh, so it is some sort of treat?"
"Yup. That's exactly it."
"Can I have some?"
"Well...."
"Please? I'd really like to try it," she asked, bending over so that she could give a reassuring smile at his level.
"Umm... Actually... I don't see why not."
"Really?"
"Sure."
"Thanks. You're really sweet," Sango told him kindly, and gave him a sisterly peck on the head.
Sota blushed heavily, and shyly handed over some ice cream to her. "Here you go."
"Thanks," she replied, and took the offered treat. She looked at it warily for a moment, and then took a small bit into her mouth. Once it hit her tongue, her entire mouth exploded in a rush of flavor. Nothing that she'd ever eaten had ever tasted as good, and she had to hold onto him to stand up straight because of how surprised she was.
"Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I am. It just.... That's really good."
"Told you."
"I know."
"You have it, if you want," he told her.
"I can?"
"Mom had me bringing it out to everyone who might want some, but we thought that you were asleep. I'll just go tell her that you were awake to get some, and she'll give me more."
"If it's not a bother...."
"Of course, it isn't!"
"Thank you very much, then," she responded, giving him a quick squeeze on his shoulder, almost seeing her own brother in this boy.
He merely blushed in pleasure at getting thanks from his sister's pretty friend while:
