Nabiki found that her normally keen mind was totally stuck upon that single fact. Up until then she'd merely imagined what that would be like, and had hoped that the time when he could escape that idiot father of his to come see her. There might have been another 'Ranma Saotome', but she seriously doubted that, and was only able to see the possibility of his return. Normally, she would have merely played it cool, but she wasn't able to really rein in her emotions.
It wasn't what she'd expected when she'd become his tutor. She'd merely been helping out a friend when she'd agreed to assist the girl's brother's friend. However, in that time that she'd spent leaning over books with him in the library, she'd found something other than mere studying happening. After all those dates where she'd merely been milking the boys for what they could give her, this guy was the one that she was actually attracted to.
That had surprised her, and she'd found herself actually agreeing to meet him again, and soon enough, they'd lost the pretense of any excuse for them being together. It was great to be his girlfriend, as he wasn't like the other guys she knew. Despite being a loud mouthed blowhard at times, he was a sweet and innocent boy who didn't have all the trappings that came with being 'cool'. He didn't treat her as if she were the 'Ice Queen', even though he'd discovered what she was capable of. In fact, his disapproval had actually hurt her, but he hadn't left her. Instead, he'd shown that he truly believed in her, and seemed to almost look up to her. For him, the fact that she was smarter than him didn't matter, as he didn't care about such things. What he did care about was her and he made her want to be a better person.
As a result, marrying him on that beautiful day wasn't something that she'd had any doubts about.
Just thinking about it had her wanting to hold onto her wedding ring, but she knew that pulling it out could cause some problems. Right now, it was best where it was, not that she ever really took it off her person, unless she had to. Having it hanging on a light chain between her breasts seemed to be a fitting spot, since that would keep it close to her heart. He was the only guy who would ever get that close to her, and that ring was a reminder to her.
"So...." she murmured, "you don't know anything about him?"
"Not really. You see, Ranma and his father have been going out on a training journey."
"Really?"
"Yes, and they've recently travelled into China."
"China?"
"One can learn many martial arts there."
"True," she admitted, though she did find herself wondering if her husband would be bringing her something.
Kasumi looked thoughtful. "Shouldn't we be prepared for their arrival?"
"Hmmm?"
"Well, if we're going to have... 'guests'...."
"That's true," the middle Tendo daughter said with a nod. "I'll go change."
"I'm glad that you girls are taking this so well," Soun commented.
Akane gave a quite snort as she trailed after the departing Nabiki. "You have no idea."
"Eh?"
"It's nothing, father," the eldest girl soothed, while:
