If she could have created the moment herself, Akane would have sworn that she couldn't have done anything better. Outside the windows was a slow snowfall that seemed to be floating down to merely dust everything it touched in a magical powder of white. Only a slight breeze stirred it up, and gave it an effect almost looking like she was peering at a snow globe. Laughter and life seemed to echo outside amongst the falling flakes, and it couldn't help but make things brighter.
But then, what was going on where she was happened to be wonderful on its own. Had she expected such things to happen, it would have been one thing, but after so much that had gone on, this day was something to treasure. She knew that it was the sort of thing that a girl only experienced once in her life, and she couldn't help being happy that it had happened in hers. Sure, it was in a public office, and there wasn't going to be any sort of big to do about it, but it was still somehow enchanting.
After all, this was a wedding where two people who were truly in love were getting married.
She caught Ranma's eye, and smiled at her friend, who stood there, looking rather great despite the lack of money spent on the clothing. He was making a wonderful groom, just as she had known that he would, and just for him, she was happy. Not that she was not pleased for the bride as well, as she was gratified to see this marriage begin. Even if they might be separated by circumstance in the future, at least they'd have this moment.
And as she exchanged looks with Nabiki and Kasumi, she knew that they were happy at that moment as well.
Early March
"FIANCE?!" echoed from three feminine throats at once.
Soun Tendo looked over at his daughters and nodded sagely. "Yes. He's the son of a very good friend of mine."
"And you want one of us to marry him?" Kasumi asked as she pursed her lips.
"Yes, I do."
Nabiki leaned forward with a scowl. "But what do you know about him?"
"Nothing other than his name."
"Great. And what is this guys name?"
"Ranma Saotome."
Before the words finished coming out of her father's mouth, Akane stiffened. She certainly knew that name, and was perfectly aware of what type of person he was. A look at her sisters told her that they were thinking the same thing that she was, but fortunately for them, the combination of their father's happy daze and their own shock was keeping him from noticing anything he wouldn't expect.
Of course, what they knew meant that the 'engagement' would be different, considering the fact that Ranma was already the husband of:
