Lab Days - Bishiegate: Home Reception [Episode 148329]

by Kender

"Okay, what's with the charging of admission?" Jack asked in a tone that said that he definitely didn't a reason for it.

Sam shrugged slightly. "Well, it isn't really that much money, sir."

"I know that Carter. It's just that this is someone's house."

"Oh. That is true...."

"But what kind of person charges an entry fee for their own house?"

"That is just Nabiki," Kasumi replied, talking slowly and clearly so as to not let her heavy accent ruin what she was saying. "She was always the little business worker. Used to play with toy registers all the time."

"Sounds like she should be in Congress."

"Oh?"

"Certain things we've experienced. (But even with this... sign, you do have a nice home,)" Daniel commented.

That caused a bright smile to light up her face. "(I'm glad that you like it. Come, and I'll show you inside.)"

"(Thank you.)"

"(It is no problem at all. Hello! I'm home, and we have visitors!)"

"Oooh! (Visitors!)" called out another voice, and a shapely girl with short hair hurried into the room.

"(Daniel, this is my sister, Nabiki. Nabiki, this is Daniel Jackson, and his friends.)"

"('Daniel'?)"

"(Yes, that is his name.)"

A brow arched over one of the younger Tendo girl's eyes. "(And it says a lot.)"

"(What does?)" Soun asked as he came into the entryway.

"(Big sis has brought a guy home.)"

"(She has?! That's wonderful! My little girl is getting so far in life... Are those people from where I think?)"

"(Probably, and the one in glasses is the only one she named.)"

"(WHAT?!)"

"(Something the matter, Daddy?)"

"(There certainly is! How is it that my daughter would... would... choose him!)" the Tendo patriarch snarled.

"(She just did.)"

"(But she's too precious to be just letting her go out and grabbing the first guy off the street!)"

"(Is she now?)"

"(Of course! She should not be with someone like him! Who knows what sort of ill-mannered lout he might be! And to bring his friends with him seems suspicious!)"

"Seems like he doesn't like us," O'Neill murmured.

"That would seem to be the case," Teal'c agreed. "In fact, he seems most adamant about it."

Kasumi merely pressed her lips together.

Soun let off a low growl. "(Why couldn't she just find someone proper to be with?! I'm certain that she could find someone like Doctor Tofu to be with!)"

"(But the heart is not always rational,)" Nabiki pointed out.

"(Yours is! You pay attention to things like worth, and appearance!)"

"(Do I now?)"

"(You do! And to think that my most dutiful daughter has fallen into this situation.... With such a weak looking man too....)"

"(FATHER!)" the eldest Tendo daughter snapped, shocking even those from SG-1.

"Kasumi?"

"(How dare you behave this way! It's... it's... impolite! They have done nothing to you, and you are being rude and nasty to them! Daniel is an archeologist with his nation's government, and so has a place of respect! You dishonor him, and shame me.)"

"(I didn't mean to....)"

"(No matter what happens, or who they are, they are still guests, and as such, we have responsibilities as their hosts!)"

"(And you seem to forget that you're treating someone that Kasumi apparently likes rather badly,)" the other Tendo girl drawled. "(He's her guest, and you embarrass her in front of him.)"

"(But I....)" Soun began weakly.

"(No one said that you had to like it, Dad.)"

Her sister nodded. "(But I do ask that you respect him and his companions. He has proven to be a most kind and open man, and I want to show him how nice our home is.)"

"(So you have two choices. Either you stay here, and play nice, or you can leave them alone. You pick.)"

"(I am your father,)" the Tendo male insisted.

"(Then act like it, would you?)"

"(I'm going to... go to my room.)"

"(Really.)"

"(Yes. If you need me, I'll be there,)" Soun answered, and walked off.

"Looks like we know who wears the pants in this house," the Colonel commented. "But we do need to get a bit more along...."

"That is fine," Kasumi told him, with only a bit of a pinch at her smile to show any lingering concern. "Come along."

"(In a hurry, are they?)" Nabiki observed as she looked over each member of the SG-1 team.

"(They are not only my new friends, but they are looking to investigate Grandfather Happosai, and what has happened here.)"

"(Scientists?)"

"(Daniel is one.)"

"(Great. They want to check things out, so I should charge them. But they're your guests, so I can't charge them.)"

"What's her problem?" Carter asked.

"She's the one behind the sign," Jackson told her. "Apparently, she is put out that she can't get money from us."

"She is?"

"That's pretty much what she said."

Jack smiled at that moment. "Then tell her that we're from the American military, and that if a little girl wants to play games, we can always take her to a small concrete room where the only things besides the walls are a wooden chair and a free hanging lightbulb."

"Jack?"

"Trust me."

Giving a small shrug of confusion, Daniel dutifully translated his friend's words.

Nabiki looked from her sister's guy, to the older white man, and set a wary gaze on him.

"You would do that?" Kasumi asked.

"Nope. Not into that sort of thing," O'Neill responded.

"Then why?"

"She needed to know, and respect our abilities."

"Ah."

"Didn't know you had it in you, sir," Sam said with a nod.

"One of the difficulties of command. Having to deal with bureaucrats and politicians. Not fun. Why do you think that I don't like Washington?" Jack muttered, and sighed, while:
