Ranma V.S. Evolution: Home is where the padded walls are (part 2) [Episode 148853]

"Hmmm." Genma sat, arms and legs crossed, eyes closed, with a stern, introspective look etched into his face.

"Hmph." Across from him sat Ranma, a perfect mirror image -in position and expression, at least.

"So, that's it then?"

"That's it."

"And, evil mutants have kidnaped your loving mother?"

Ranma only nodded in affirmation, knowing his voice could betray a half truth the same as a full blown lie.

"And, you're determined to fight them all, and save her."

"Of course!" He exclaimed as he snapped his eyes open, allowing them to convey the burning heart that raged within him.

"Then there's only one thing left to do..."

"Un-cute Tombooooooyyyyy"

"Ah, it seems your son has returned, Saotome." Soun Tendo said as he moved another piece on the Shogi board.

"Check!" Genma Saotome exclaimed, as he slammed a piece into place with a woody thunk. Looking up as if in afterthought, he noted the evident return of his son. "Indeed, Tendo, it seems he has." Judging from his son's trajectory, he noted, with some alarm, that Ranma was flying toward the Tendo house instead of away from it. Analyzing the boy's flight path, he scooted several places to his right, into a position that, he assured himself, was safe.

As if in testament to his great skill and all encompassing wisdom, he took the full force of Ranma's landing directly in the face.

Soun took a moment to rearrange the Shogi board in his favor, while the two Saotomes gathered their wits on the floor. "Checkmate, Saotome. It seems I win this game."

Genma only grunted in reply as he turned to his son. "Welcome back, boy."

"Pops, we need to talk." Ranma said as he sat up looking serious.

Seeing a father-son talk coming up, Soun excused himself and went to find Kasumi, and hopefully snacks.

"Ranma!" Genma suddenly exclaimed, standing and grabbing his son by the shoulders. Ranma was caught by surprise by the passion in his father's voice, or maybe it was just the stink on his breath. Either way, he was shocked into inaction by the overbearing presence of his father. "I will help you..."

"Oh, crap!" Ranma thought to himself. The last time his dad tried to help during one of his adventures, the old man ended up as Shampoo's servant. He'd be more of a hindrance than a help. And, what's more, what if he learned that Nodoka was really a mutant named Mystique? Thankfully, he didn't have to come up with a reason to dissuade him.

Because, as his father continued, his innate laziness became apparent once again. "... train. Yes! I will help you train for the strenuous, difficult and, no doubt, dangerous path you have ahead of you. Don't worry, son. I'll be right beside you the whole time, right up until its time to fight. Yessir, right behind you - far behind you. Lets leave immediately, there's training to be had!"

"Yeah right, old man." Ranma said, shrugging out of his father's grip and turning away from him. "Like you have anything left to teach me anyway."

"If only that were true, boy. For then, you wouldn't leave so many OPENINGS!" He shouted as he lunged at the boy's unprotected back, and soon found himself flying across the Tendo lot and into the koi pond.

"Very well." Read the sign, that the soggy panda held. It flipped the sign around and revealed: "If that's how you feel then there's only one course of action left to us!"

The panda led Ranma through the Tendo house, to a room that none dared enter but one. It jerked the door open to reveal none other than Happosai sitting at an ironing board, tending to his silky darlings. It held up a sign saying "Please teach your unworthy pupil, oh grand master!" as it pushed the boy into a kneeling position in front of it.

The ancient grandmaster of anything goes martial arts turned to them...
