Soun fell.

Normally, this would be of little problem. It was where he was falling that proved to be the problem. As the tree swung up to fill his vision, he expected to land nose-first.

Instead, he realized it was night as he pulled himself up. The obvious conclusion was that he had been unconscious for some time.

It was only after he'd managed to take in his surroundings a bit more that he realized that he was no longer in a forest on an island in the South Pacific.

The nearest tree was the only tree, and he was pointing away from it. It was not a forest, but a single tree ringed with grass. It was not on ground level, but was ringed by what looked like shaped cement. When Soun looked over those, he felt his stomach drop and try to crawl off somewhere.

There were clouds BELOW his point of view. Occasionally you could get glimpses of a vast city of lights stretching off in all directions. It was not, as near as he could tell, downtown Tokyo.

Then something like a warning buzzer sounded and a section of pavement slid back to allow a cylinder to rise up in its place. Sections on the cylinder rotated in the manner of an iris, opening to reveal something.

Soun gulped and realized it was too late to hide. He also realized that the thing stepping off the elevator was not Japanese. Or even human.


One didn't have to worry about most of the streams and lakes in Gonyoo. The enchantment of the waters did eventually fade. The natives had all marked the ones you didn't want to mess with, but mainly they relied on guides and people checking the maps.

As Genma arced out over the stream, he had time to consider briefly that he would once again get wet and become a panda. Except that, as the waters closed over him, he realized:
