Between that and business at Ucchans it wasn't until after the weekend that Akane and Ranma could compare notes with Ukyou.
"So, wait," Akane said. "She's after you too?"
"Yeah," Ukyou said. "She came into my restaurant at the peak business hours, kissed me full on the lips and publicly explained what she was planning...I've had a lot of business added to the normal crowd since then...mostly couples...female couples...or guys that spend a lot of time watching me and the female couples..."
Akane shivered as Ranma looked puzzled.
"The regular crowd seems to think it's funny," Ukyou said, shaking her head. "Do you know how bizarre it is to have an old marriage couple cheerfully congratulate you on having such an obviously happy relationship with another girl?!?"
"Ukyou," Nabiki said, joining them. "This is Nerima, your regular crowd has probably been taking bets as to when one of you girls would try this."
"And you've been running the pools, right?" Akane asked.
"Maybe," Nabiki said. She hadn't been, it had taken her completely by surprise, hence the almost dropped bagel, but she wasn't going to let people know that.
"Sheesh," Ranma said. "I wonder if she's even going for Kodachi?"
"I don't think so," Ukyou said. "She'd have been sent home paralyzed by now...or else fed to the alligator." She checked the time. "Oh damn, I gotta go!" And then Ukyou was up and running. "Have to open shop, this is one of my work release days."
In the wake of Ukyou's exit there was a blizzard of black rose petals outside and all four of the chatters sighed in resignation.
"Speak of the devil," Nabiki said as Kodachi slowly walked in, a fact which raised an eyebrow.
"OHHHH-*cough*cough*hack*wheeeeeze," Kodachi bent over double as her exertion brought on the coughing fit. It was only a day or two after she'd mostly recovered after all.
"Hey," Akane said, approaching the girl hesitantly. "Are you all right." She patted Kodachi on the back and then, along with Ranma, helped the girl to her feet.
"I'm fine, I'm fine," Kodachi insured everyone catching her breath. "I am merely getting over a nasty illness. I do keep forgetting that laughing is not a good thing to do with a sore throat."
"Would this illness have anything to do with Shampoo, Kodachi," Nabiki asked curiously, one eyebrow arched.
"Oh yes," Kodachi said. "That is why I am here." And then with a flourish she presented both Akane and Ranma each with a single black rose.
"Uh," Akane said nervously. "What's this?"
Following that, Kodachi demurely kissed each of them on the lips.
"Akane Tendo, Ranma Saotome," Kodachi said. "I Kodachi of the Joketsuzoku do at this point inform you of our impending marriage."
"Kodachi of..." Nabiki blinked, non-pulsed.
"You. Didn't. Marry. Shampoo," Akane said firmly.
"Oh, I do believe I did," Kodachi said dreamily, and then coughed. She looked around embarrassedly. "Oh, please don't tell her I was hear, she still thinks I should be resting. I shall see you soon, my loves." And then she was shambling out, unhindered due to the shock.
"Err, Akane," Ranma said.
"What?" Akane asked.
"You and I have all the same fiancees," Ranma said.
"There's still Ukyou!" Akane said.
"I give her three days," Nabiki said. "Max."
"Time to start some serious training, Akane," Ranma says. "So...do you want me or Shampoo to teach you?"
