Nabiki looked at Ranma, mischief dancing in her eyes. "You want to know what a lesbian is, Ranma-kun?"
Ranma scratched his head. "I guess. I mean, if it's Mousse saying it, he's probably wrong - but I just wanna know what it means."
"Well, then it's your lucky day. It just so happens that I have a great number of manga which are highly educational about that very subject. For the sake of furthering better understanding within our family, I could be persuaded to let you borrow them free of charge - provided that you promise to read them all the way through and submit to a short question-an-answer session, to let me make sure you properly understood what you read. After all, we wouldn't want you to get a wrong impression of my little sister. If you decide not to answer my questions, however, I'll have to charge you a nominal fee of 1000 yen for wear and tear."
Ranma blinked. First Shampoo decided to pursue Akane for a change, and now Nabiki giving things away for free? This really had to be his lucky day. He smiled broadly, as he followed Nabiki into the house.
Upstairs Nabiki ducked into her room and came out again with several manga volumes. Ranma couldn't make out the titles, since she kept the covers... er, covered. She led him to his room and thrust the books into his hands.
"Here. You'd better find a way to lock this door - these are best read in private."
Ranma was a bit puzzled by that remark and looked down at the manga volumes in his hands, thus missing the smirk on Nabiki's face.
"Have fun, Ranma-kun, and try not to leave any stains."
"Huh? Stains? What?" Ranma looked up again, but Nabiki was already heading outside again. Ranma scratched his head and closed the door, wedging it shut with his backpack. He sat down on the floor and opened the first manga of the stack.
One hour later Ranma emerged back into the yard, his head as red as a chili pepper. He approached Nabiki, who was lounging around, taking in the free show. Wordlessly he handed her 1000 yen.
Nabiki accepted it gracefully. "So you decided to take a chance and not let me make sure you properly understood what you read?"
"I got it all right," growled Ranma. "I just ain't keen on letting you embarrass me on top of that." He turned to stalk away, but hesitated. If it was possible, he turned even more red, as he asked, "Um. Is Akane really... I mean, does she... stuff like that... like in the books?"
Nabiki raised a brow and let Ranma sweat for a moment, before replying. "I wouldn't want to make any absolute statements without concrete evidence, but it is a rather popular assumption about Akane's preferences at school. Her views about boys are rather well known, after all. For your peace of mind, however, I should mention that being a lesbian does not necessarily entail acting upon one's preferences. For all I know, Akane could still be a virgin who has never done 'stuff like that'."
Ranma played with his pigtail nervously. "When we were at the beach in that melon-splitting race, she got real upset when she thought I was gonna kiss her."
"Ah, the common term for that would be 'hiding in the closet'," Nabiki explained loftily. "Not wanting to be recognised as a homosexual. You may remember that her main complaint was about being seen kissing you."
Ranma blinked. "That's right! She said 'there are people watching'... And when I turned up here, she was real nice to me, until she found out I was a boy..." He fell silent, thinking about this.
"Of course," said Nabiki, "this is all just circumstantial evidence. Plus there was her crush on Toufuu-sensei, so she might actually be heterosexual after all."
"Uh... 'heterosexual'?" said Ranma.
"Don't know what that means, Ranma-kun? If you wish, I have a few more manga that should make the concept quite clear - same terms as before?"
Ranma gulped and backed away. "No! I mean, no thanks, Nabiki. I'll, err, look it up in a dictionary," he stammered and quickly fled.
Nabiki smirked to herself. "Well, what do you know? He can be trained."
"Damn Nabiki, always teasin' me and stuff..." Ranma grumbled to himself, kicking a pebble. He looked up and saw that the "Mousse & Akane Show" had ended - probably with a certain duck-boy in LEO. For some reason most girls seemed to be able to do that, regardless of normal skill levels in the Art. Shampoo was gently massaging Akane's shoulders, and Ranma had an involuntary flashback to one of the stories in the third manga, which had started with a backrub just like this and ended... with something else entirely.
His face started burning again at the mental image of Akane and Shampoo doing that. Damn that Nabiki! Now he couldn't even look at those two anymore, without having ecchi thoughts. He quickly turned away.
A cold shower. That's what he needed now. A nice cold- no wait! Cold water meant girl body - and he really didn't want to be a girl right now. Not with Akane and Shampoo around and all those naughty thoughts in his head. Like the thought of Akane's tongue buried in a bush of short, curly, lavender hair... Ack! Bad thought!
Akane looked after Ranma, who was tearing away at a dead run. "Huh? What's up with him, all of a sudden?"
"Shampoo not know. Our husband is strange, no?" said Shampoo, continuing to gently knead the muscles of Akane's shoulders.
Akane gave a tiny moan of bliss. She was still wary of the Amazon's motives behind the sudden change of behaviour - but the massage simply felt too good to stop her. She might have overcome this reluctance, had she known how closely Shampoo's plans for the continuation of this massage matched the manga that Ranma had read. For now, though, she simply basked in the feelings of relaxation that Shampoo's deft fingers coaxed from her tense muscles.
Shampoo, for her part, also enjoyed the backrub she was giving her co-wife. Akane was well-muscled, but still shapely, so the massage was a very nice excuse to run her hands over Akane's body. She planned to let them roam quite a bit further than just over Akane's neck and shoulders.
She was more certain than ever that Akane would make a fine Amazon. She had been quite surprised how well Akane held her own against Mousse, who had given even Ranma trouble on occasion. Of course, if Mousse hadn't kept saying those things that Shampoo didn't understand, but which got Akane angry, then Akane would not have been able to use the Fist of Righteous Female Fury, and Mousse might have won - but that she managed to hold off a weapons user bare-handed this long was quite impressive. Now that she no longer viewed Akane as an obstacle, but as a future partner, she could appreciate the girl's tenacity and skill. With some training she could be among the top Amazons of her generation, like Shampoo herself.
She just needed a little more convincing. Shampoo let one of her hands stray down Akane's back and trail back up sensually along her side. Akane made no protestation, and Shampoo smiled. Time to take this one step further.
He visits Cologne at the Nekohanten, to find out if Shampoo is really serious about this. And because the sight of Cologne is a surefire way to kill naughty thoughts dead.
