"Oversimplified?" asked Sam, hopefully.
"Yes," said Freke, who snapped his fingers. Glowing equations swirled into being, floating around the room. "See you do?"
"Hell no," said Janet, "I'm sorry but math at this level is way over my head."
"Ah? You? You see, yes?" asked Freke of Sam.
Samantha Carter would practically rather have her teeth extracted than admit she had no idea what the equations indicated. "Uhm. Why are they changing over there?"
"That? Oh. Adaptive effect, variable set, ran out of room," said Freke. "Still, you see? Intelligence enhancement not part of original Metamorph. Not Quantum Echo. Add on."
"Wait a minute, so it isn't the turning into elves and cyborgs that's the problem, it's something that was tacked onto that at the last minute?" asked Janet.
"Yes," said Freke.
"So what about this 'special someone' clause?" asked Sam.
"See this? Was improper written, originally something else, then erased and rewritten, but part remains. Strengthened with viral generations. Hit your area - much problem. Brilliant but stupid." Freke scrolled through three more pages of glowing equations, which still managed to cover floor, ceiling, and walls. "See here. See? Unstable part, access part on page one. Very bad. If no find 'special someone' - no resonate - no echo. If find one - very strange effect."
"Does he always talk like this?" Janet asked Munin. Or Hugin. She wasn't sure which.
"Yes, annoying isn't it?" asked Munin in reply.
"We're having trouble understanding part of this ourselves. How do you think Asgard reproduce?" asked Hugin.
"Ah, well, that is," managed an off guard Janet.
"Cloning, we do not do the whole 'sweaty bodies grappling and exchanging fluids' thing," said Munin, a bit of distaste showing in his voice. "Consciousness is transferred to machine holders and then to a new clone body. This part is obviously concerned with your primitive reproductive method and the emergence of a minor psi trait."
"Primitive, but avoid problems with clonings does," said Freke.
"Problems with clonings?" asked Janet, suddenly curious.
"The subject is the human problems with the disease," said Hugin a little curtly. "Please don't lose focus on that."
"If find their 'special someone' they do," warned Freke, "psychic connection made will be and-"
