No Jusenkyo. No accidentally turning into a girl. He was a guy up until he said the old wizard's name.
So it was a male Ranma who looked over the village in the full swing of their tournament.
Not everything was as he had remembered it, which threw him briefly for a loop.
A number of the people were wearing those Mao outfits. Only the ones actively participating in the Tournament wore other clothing. There were the usual pictures of Chairman Mao, just as you saw elsewhere throughout China, except that they hadn't been in the village on his previous trip.
There had been a few extra scars in the land, and a few less people, and signs that something had happened here in the past.
It was tempting to find a quiet spot and change to Marvel. That cool intellect that seemed to bring things into focus might make sense of it immediately, but he distrusted that here. Turn into a girl and he might end up in exactly the same situation he was hoping to avoid.
While puzzling over the changes and similarities to his memories, he lost track of his father.
A commotion began in Chinese shortly thereafter.
Ranma realized what had happened almost immediately, and rushed over to find that his father was being menaced by swords and surrounded by both fragments of the First Prize and angry Amazons.
Trying to find a way out of the situation, Ranma tried to come up with a way of defusing this situation and also avoiding what had originally occurred.
