"BOY! Get over here!" boomed a loud voice as he came out of the station.
Unfortunately, there were some who got to be so much at ease with the crowds that they tended to forget themselves. But then, his father had never been one for propriety at all. He was the same man who had hung around heroes as the 'comedic relief' and hadn't actually had much of a problem with it.
"I told you...."
"Yeah, I heard you," Ranma grumbled as he came over to the fat man in the gi. "You came to meet me?"
"Of course! My only son is finally returning to Japan, as he should be."
"Oh?"
"Well, there are things that we have to do, and you do have family obligations," Genma told him, almost looking as if he were a model of virtue.
"What sort of 'obligations'?"
"One thing is that we need to get you to see your mother. It's been too long since she saw you last."
That managed to make the younger Saotome wince, especially since his father was right for once. "That'd be a good idea."
"I know. And it gives her a chance to see how well I raised you."
"Just when a glimmer of hope shows up...."
"What was that?"
"Nothing."
"It sounded like 'something', but that's not important. The main thing that we have to do right now is to get you to my old friend Tendo's place," his father said as seriously as he could manage. "He and I have something really important to handle between you and any daughters that he might have."

"How did you know that?"
"Simple. It's tradition. The mother and father of a guy talk to the parents of a girl, and they arrange a meeting so that they can see if they fit as a couple."
"Oh. I see...."
"Great," Ranma replied simply, glad that the explanation worked well enough. He did not want to let his father know that he'd already gone through this once before, even if the memories were fading from that time.
"Then there's nothing to hold us back then."
"What do you mean?"
"It's really simple. Since there's no need to explain this to you, we can go right away."
"To your friend's place?"
"Exactly. Now, let's go, boy," Genma ordered.
His son wanted to groan, but stifled the urge, as he had better things to do with his time. This was something that had to be handled immediately, though he couldn't be certain how it would turn out. By what had been the situation the last time around, he knew that he could have certain... problems coming up. Akane could be possibly trained as a sidekick, though that might be, in and of itself, a not so good idea. Nabiki might be trouble to get around, as he had only a small hope that he could actually get her to be helpful in this cause. And Kasumi was likely the only person that he knew that could make being a 'damsel in distress' be pleasant.
But no matter what, this needed to be settled as soon as possible, so he merely let his father lead him along, while:
