"So I did," responded Cologne's voice. "She's awake, by the way."
"Akane?"
Akane stirred and slowly opened her eyes. Sleeping was oblivion and was very comfortable right now. "Ugh. The ring?"
"Ranma wished it on to his finger," said Nabiki, sounding perturbed. "We had several near disasters already."
"Oh," said Akane. So now she'd passed the doom on - and it would be Ranma who would pay the price. "Is he here?"
"Cologne ended up tying him up and gagging him," said Nabiki. "Nobody was available to watch him."
"A temporary measure," confessed Cologne. "Eventually the ring will free him if he doesn't free himself. There may only be one solution at present."
"What's that?" asked Akane in her breathy whisper.
"Killing him before the Ring has a chance to drain him," guessed Nabiki.
"It may come to such measures," said Cologne, sounding immensely drained. "To save his sanity and soul, though at the cost of his life. Not a choice that should be made hastily, for all that we may not have much time."
"Mirror," asked Akane as best as she could.
"Are you sure you're ready for this?" asked Nabiki. At Akane's nod, she moved a mirror to where Akane could see her reflection.
