Right. You walk towards the Academy on the outskirts of Domino City. The school takes up a large area, especially in a place like Japan, and you see dozens of people around. Some are wearing red blazers; a few other yellow ones and every now and then you see a blue one. These are current students in the Academy. The bulk of the crowd, however, are not in a uniform, these are people like you trying to get in. You walk up to a front desk and tell the receptionist that you’d like to apply. She smiles and hands you a form to complete.
Jot down whatever info they need then.
After a moment the form is complete. The receptionist puts it away before turning to you. “Please go to room 405, it’s on the fourth floor. You’ll take your written exam there.”
Say ‘Thank you’ and head towards the room.
You give the woman an award-winning smile before finding an elevator and ascending to the fourth floor. After a moment you find room 405. One of the empty seats is next to a red-haired girl.
Sounds like my seat! Sit down in it and say hello.
You walk over to the seat and sit down. “Hey there.” You say, getting the girl’s attention. She has red eyes and orange hair going down to her mid back and is wearing red shorts and a yellow tank top.
“Hmmm? Oh, Hi! How are you?”
Say “I’m all right. By the way, I’m Tenchi Masaki.” And extend my hand.
“And I’m Lina Inverse!” She says proudly shaking your hand. “Sorceress Duellist Supreme!”
LINA FUCKING INVERSE? ENEMY OF ALL WHO LIVE!? THE DRAGON SPOOKER? Man I always wanted to say that.
Verrry funny. Just be glad she can’t actually cast magic in this game...
Anyway, you two make some small talk before the teacher comes in, he has thinning hair, a bald spot on the back of his head, spectacles on his nose and a bored look on his face. He mechanically hands out sheets to everyone as he talks with a monotone voice. “Thank you for applying to Duellist Academy, we appreciate your support.”
Couldn’t tell. This guy is so excited...
Yeah, I bet. He continues. “I am now handing out your written exam, there are pens inside the desks for you to use, please put them back when you are done. When you have completed your exam hand them to me and proceed to the duelling arena in the next building.”
Man what a stiff... once I get the exam start in on it, and aim for the highest marks I can, of course.
You and Lina are given the exam, and you both start writing. Most students are done in half an hour. You and Lina finish at about the same time. You make sure your name is on the exam and you pass it to the teacher. He nods and starts to say a ‘thank you’ speech but you and Lina escape his monologue.
Say “Man talk about stiff, he sounded like he had his thong on too tight.”
Lina giggles at your quip and nods. “No kidding. Let’s go.” She says going towards the elevator.
Follow her, sneaking peeks whenever possible.
Didn’t take you long... Your eyes wander over her shapely rump until you reach the elevator. Once you’re on the first floor you both leave the building heading towards the next one, the arena. You both sign in to duel, Lina against Miss Hinako of Ranma ½ fame, and yourself against a non-mutant Hank McCoy from the X-Men.
Cool. Hang out with Lina until the duel begins.
No chance, Lina’s duel is happening right now. “Gotta go! Cheer for me!” She says in a singsong voice, heading into the arena. What now?
OK then, go to the stands and watch.
You quickly head up into the rafters and find a seat. As the referee explains the conditions to Lina and Hinako you hear a voice. “Excuse me, is this seat taken?”
Turn my head and see who’s asking.
The speaker is a long blonde haired girl with a shapely body and gentle voice. She is also wearing a blue uniform, symbolizing she’s in the Obelisk Blue dorm.
Say “Sure. I’m Tenchi.”
She smiles and sits next to you. “And I’m Relena Peacecraft. A pleasure to meet you.”
Say “Same here. I’m just waiting for my duel.” Then make small talk until I have to duel.
The two of you make idle chit-chat as Lina duels. It turns out her father is a major stockholder in Kaiba Corp and she’s attending not only to learn about duelling but to possibly take a job inside Kaiba Corp. Soon Lina wins her match and it’s time for yours. You explain this and stand to leave, but Relena does so as well. “Would you mind if I came along as well?”
Hey, I sure don’t mind. Tell her it’s no problem and get moving.
You both head down to the arena entrance, Lina bouncing out towards you. “Did you see that? No problem!”
Before you reply a staff member walks up to you. “Are you Tenchi Masaki?”
Say yes.
You reply in the affirmative and the man nods. “I see.” He says. “Sorry to inform you, but Mr. McCoy is no longer your opponent now.”
Wait wait... Ask what he means.
“Your opponent has been changed... to Mr. Gendo Ikari.” You hear Relena suck in a slight breath behind you.
“Mr. Ikari? But no student has beaten him before, or any of the other teachers for that matter! Why is he acting as an examiner?”
“I don’t know Ma’am, I’m just the messenger.”
Say “No worries Relena, I got this.” One King of the Bastards is gonna be whooped! Save Game.
Overwrite previous save?
Yes.
Game Saving, do not turn off the power.
... Game Saved.
“So, who’s this Tenchi?” Lina asks, eying Relena a bit.
“Oh yes, we haven’t been introduced yet have we. Relena Peacecraft, it’s nice to meet you.”
“Lina Inverse, pleasure to meet’cha.” They shake hands and turn to look at you. “I’m going to go watch. Give him hell!” And with that Lina turns and heads to the rafters. Relena wait for a moment.
“Good luck Tenchi... I think you’ll need it.” She bows before turning and following Lina. After that you enter the arena, Gendo already waiting, duel disk on his left arm, his right hand pushing his glasses up.
The ref explains the conditions. Gendo nods before looking at you. “Welcome Mr. Masaki, so glad you could join us. Pity I’ll be sending you home.”
Man, what a guy... ask what his problem is.
“That won’t be your concern soon. Draw your cards.”
Both duel disks activate and both your life points are set at 4000. Both players draw five cards, you draw a sixth indicating you have the first move.
What do I have in my hand?
You have six cards, Mystic Swordsman Lvl 2 (2/900/0), Rush Recklessly (Spell), Tailor of the Fickle (Spell), Double Spell (Spell), Amazoness Blowpiper (4/800/1500), Waboku (Trap)
Isn’t Mystic Swordsman a little, ya know, weak?
Maybe, but if it destroys another monster you can summon Lvl 4 from your deck when the turn ends. It can also destroy all face down monsters instantly.
Really... Summon Lvl 2 in attack mode and set Rush Recklessly and Waboku. End turn.
“Pathetic.” Gendo says, as your short purple and white swordsman arrives on the field. He draws a card. “First I play Graceful Charity to draw three cards and discard two. I now summon Agido, in attack mode.” The red and gold clawed ball floats up above Gendo, claws at the ready. (4/1500/1600) “Now destroy his Swordsman!”
Use Rush Recklessly to boost Mystic Swordsman Lvl 2.
Your monster’s attack is boosted by 700 (1600) as Agido charges, but is met by your monster’s sword. His fairy monster is destroyed.
Tenchi: 4000 LP Gendo: 3900 LP
“An interesting move. However since my Agido was destroyed I roll a die.” A blue coloured die appears beside him. “I can summon one Fairy monster from my graveyard the same level as whatever I roll.”
So he MAY get back his Agido, big deal.
Well don’t forget, he did discard two other cards. The die rolls, landing on a three. “Excellent. I can now summon The Agent of Creation - Venus, from my graveyard!” A long haired blonde female monster with golden wings arrives on Gendo’s side of the field. (3/1600/0) “I place one card face down and end my turn.”
All right, Level Up my monster!
Got it. “Since my monster destroyed one of yours and the turn it did so has ended I am allowed to Level Up to Mystic Swordsman Lvl 4!” Your monster is replaced by taller and more muscular swordsman packing twin blades, Mystic Swordsman Lvl 4. (4/1900/1700)
Draw card.
You draw Mystical Elf (4/800/2000).
Not much help... summon her in defence mode and attack with Lvl 4.
Once your elf appears in defence mode your Mystic Swordsman charges but Gendo uses a face down card. “I activate Draining Shield, to negate your attack.” A blue shield appears around Venus, deflecting your monster’s blades. “In addition I gain Life Points equal to the attacking monsters attack points.”
Tenchi: 4000 LP Gendo: 5800 LP
Crap! End turn.
Gendo draws one cards and smiles. “First I use my Agent’s ability, summoning a Mystical Shine Ball to my field from my deck. This will cost me 500 Life points.”
A glowing silver ball appears on Gendo’s side of the field. (2/500/500)
Tenchi: 4000 LP Gendo: 5300 LP
“Then I sacrifice the Mystical Shine Ball to summon The Agent of Judgment – Saturn, in attack mode!” The silver ball vanishes and in it’s place arrives a purple skinned and winged man dressed in purple and white robes. (6/2400/0) “Next I activate Sanctuary in the Sky! This field magic card will prevent me from taking damage anytime you attack one of my fairy monsters. Now, Saturn attack!”
Not happening! Activate Waboku!
Saturn fires a blast of purple flame at your monster, but Waboku erects a shield, keeping you from taking damage and saving your monster. Gendo frowns for a moment but his faces quickly returns to an emotionless mask. “So you saved your monster, big deal. I activate my Agent of Judgment’s special ability!” The monster begins to glow before turning into a purple fireball. “By sacrificing Saturn while my Sanctuary is in play I can do direct damage to your life points equal to the difference between mine and yours. Now, go!” The fireball flies past your monsters, hitting you directly.
Tenchi: 2700 LP Gendo: 5300 LP
“Next I offer 500 of my Life Points to summon another Mystical Shine Ball from my deck.” (2/500/500)
Tenchi: 2700 LP Gendo: 4800 LP
“I now end my turn.”
You draw one card, it’s...
