Ranma touched the goo and KNEW her then. As if he'd just met her. He could picture how she looked and smelled. He knew that her name had been Aya Matsumoto, a Junior High School girl that lived in the area. He knew that she hoped to be a singer and had a grandfather who was quite famous in certain circles.
Ranma stared at the drop of goo on his finger. He sniffed it, and knew that her favorite scent was of baking bread.
Ranma nearly wiped the droplet off and ran for it as this was all very freaky. Nearly.
Instead he brought up the drop and examined it. Everyone he knew was now like this. A glob of orange goo that acted similar to mercury in some ways. Akane, Nabiki, Kasumi, Shampoo, Ukyo, his father, his rivals, the shopkeeper down the street - everyone.
Curiosity got him to the next step. His tongue went out and touched the glop.
He squatted there briefly, eyes wide and unseeing. Slowly he got up, walked over to a shadowed portion of building and tried to get a handle on things. Some portion of his mind knew he was crying, the rest of him didn't care.
He KNEW Aya Matsumoto now. He remembered her bright cheery smile and "never give up" attitude. He remembered her doting grandfather, her cousin Ryo who was a Japanese expatriate living in New York City, her vow to her dying mother when she was six to be strong. He remembered her being a track-and-field star but how she wanted to be a singer and had been accepted in the All-Japan National Young Beauty Contest, which she had been going to compete in this summer.
He knew how much she liked dogs, how she had briefly had a crush on her track coach. This wasn't a cipher or a dot in some census, Ranma knew this girl now as a discreet whole person. She had been nice and sweet and thoughtful, but a "can do" and "hands on" sort of person as well.
Ranma gradually got control over himself again. When he looked up again,
