Shinji's new day: Faulty logic and Nasty Threads. [Episode 152654]

by CrystalBlaze

As the SRU Wizard watched, Shinji's mind went into a decisive over drive he would have denied existed if you asked him. This primal part of his being only really came to light in acting on others' behalf, and he wrote it off as being purely from others' influence as a result.
In its submerged cradle in the LCL bay, Unit-01 trembled from sensing its main source of motivation coming into play, then stilled as it was not being piloted at that point.
Shinji thought so much as handling his costume might affect him, so he knew he had to get his costume last. If matters came down to him alone, he'd just have gotten something and left to face his fate alone, but he was a Children and Evangelion pilot, so that was out. It didn't mean he wouldn't pick the next least worthy first, however. From the beginning, Shinji had seen that Fuyutsuki was welded to his shit of a father, merely fulfilling the asshole's wishes as efficiently as he could. That made him the most expendable person in Tokyo-3 who wouldn't seem like a throwaway to this crazy wizard. (Reviewing this situation, Shinji had come to believe the Wizard was as he purported himself to be. That was no comfort to Shinji, and in no way predicated sanity on the Wizard's part.)

Shinji knew that the business of the Wizard wanting things to change for Shinji then putting the means down to his own choice meant that whatever the man's goal, he found issues with NERV and the Evangelions. So did Shinji, but he didn't find common cause with anybody before this, to say nothing of having no interest in gaining any now. He therefore worked through the situation as he went. Fuyutsuki was a talented follower, a part of the system and tool of its headman. He would not wear something obviously pornographic, and would likely refuse something that would mock his chosen role. Finding something that made a dig at what Fuyutsuki was about was the way to honestly buy a costume the man would be changed appropriately by, but would never wear anyway, which was Shinji's goal in this purchase. He sighed in relief when the store obligingly did respond to his needs as promised, revealing a perfect set of makeup and clothes for the aide to dress up as Piter de Vries, 'twisted' Mentat from Frank Herbert's Dune.

The test of his ability to choose costumes confirmed, Shinji got serious. This guy seems to think I'm going to pick on the girls, from the way he blinked when I passed the female costumes. They don't like a wretch like me, that is true enough, but it's not like I'm worth anything. I'll just get the ones I'm closest to items that would work a change on them, but that they'll never ever wear. I can beat this! He chose accordingly. First he chose for his drunken authority figure. Misato just loved teasing him, but Shinji knew she would never follow through on such things or even appreciate his making a scene by showing his reactions to her frankly HOT body. Misato also made no bones about being the one in charge in the apartment, so he felt she would never wear the harem girl lingerie/costume that practically lept into his hand.

Next up was Asuka. That hothead never liked being second best at anything, and loved being at the same time too sexy for words in her efforts to snare Kaji and completely unavailable for a schmuck like Shinji. He knew, as she'd gone so far as to say so. So it was either the Cutey Honey costume (Honey Kisaragi, civilian mode) or the Naomi Armitage model. He decided to hedge his bets by taking parts of both and describing it as Cutey Honey having taken the role of Armitage. The only surprise the devoutly concentrating Shinji noted was the wizard nodding easily to the strange request.

Finally came a costume Shinji knew he had to try if he was going to be allowed his gambit at all. Rei was too central to the plans of his ass of a father to not be chosen for, but Shinji had felt oddly connected to her from the day she'd slapped him for vocalizing his hate for his despised so called parent. He pitied her lack of connection to life and secretly (even to him) lusted after her body, so he had to make the costume fit his criteria in a new way: Something that seemed to fit the bill in changing her, but that Gendo would never want her wearing. He finally decided, nodding grimly when his option was inexplicably in stock: A 'nude' body stocking that matched her albino skin tone and had input ports placed to barely cover her genitals, along with a suitably shaded wig. Shinji was certain that there was no way in Hell his pus bag of a father would allow Rei to dress up as a seemingly naked Motoko Kusanagi if Shinji was right.

Finally, it was down to his own costume. He didn't have as much hope for himself as for anyone else, unless his costume was. Hey! That might just work! Shinji wasted no time in seeking a costume so unlike his own pathetic self that he felt sure Asuka would tear it off his body the moment she saw it! The store obliged happily, coming up with a costume that promised to piss off Gendo as well. There was absolutely no way the youngster could fail to dress up as Alucard of Hellsing infamy once he saw the costume.

So excited he ate the Clark bar while changing clothes, Shinji then forked over his money, a bit surprised when the smiling Wizard led him to the door as promised. He hurried on into the streets and back to the apartment, feeling foolish and feeling the sun was too bright and revealed too much. Oh, well, Shinji figured. At least it's in character.
