Shinji's new day: "Man, don't it make you want to twist and shout, when you're inside out?" (Kudos to the Travelling Wilburys) [Episode 28143]

by CrystalBlaze

Shinji idly grabbed a Clark Bar but he was honestly a bit flummoxed at the way a section of store appeared displaying new items when he was looking for something, anything that might get him out in something resembling one piece. He was hardly stupid, and Shinji Ikari was vaguely worried that this guy being exactly what he advertised himself to be would be possibly worse than the old man being a fruit loop.

Shuddering in disgust and (justified) worry, he stepped away from the small cereal shelf that had appeared. Shinji had no intention of learning what would happen eating Fruit Loops from this place. He had enough odd females about, so any loss of masculinity was felt in his opinion to be something earned, not inflicted.

In turning away from the cereal, Shinji was thinking of roles, thus he was only surprised at the costumes at the surface levels of his mind. He looked over the rack, finding the high-quality costumes to be from the Ethan Rayne collection, wholly produced by Pillow Creek Fashions. Nodding at his lack of having heard of these folks, he confirmed once more that fashion and Shinji had been diametrically opposed for some years now.

Then he thought about it and smiled. "Since I can't leave until I buy, and that's a sort of entrapment, would you allow me a discount to buy for others, and not do this to those people unless they ask to buy from you?"

The smiling wizard blinked, then looked at Shinji a little more sharply. "If someone's meant to be here, I'm not going to bar that happening."

Shinji almost backed down, but then he saw the elderly owner was still smiling, so he finished his point despite his worry. "But they'll have gifts from here. Surely if some thing's meant to happen, it'll happen from their gifts. Besides, I don't have any plans for them, so it's not like I'm going to matter in this."

If you only knew, lad. But then this stupid situation's custom made to keep you weak, for now. The wizard said "Well, if you hand over your cash, I'll see my way clear to you getting 5 costumes, but you must wear one. Preferably out the door."

Shinji sighed and started picking out the items, convinced he'd managed to minimize the damage. The wizard knew better, but at least felt that Shinji would be able to survive this once he absentmindedly ate that Clark Bar he'd unknowingly pocketed during the exchange.

Shinji's idea was to base the costumes off notions his chosen recipients might want to display or at least think of enhancing. That way he would be humoring the old man, or maybe avoiding disaster if there was actually something to all this.

Thus his costume, and those meant for Misato, Asuka, Rei, and (on a strange whim) the chaperon Fuyutsuki were:
