Pokeboys, pokemen, animorphs - it all depended on who you talked to apparently. There were five nations on this planet, settled by the fifteen women who'd been present at the crash site of the Demeter. Each was based on the nationality of the survivors, who had been a mix from five countries. Naturally they'd wanted to keep their culture and history alive, and so they'd worked this out in the images of their past.
Ranma was in the area known as Amaterasu, which corresponded to Japan. A peninsula that stretched out into a sea thriving with wildlife, some very alien, that supplied fish and rice to most of the other countries.
It was the pokeboys that caught his attention though, not the details about trade or demographics.
Several of the guards were Bears. Big, thickly bodied, humanoid BEARS. They didn't seem all that smart, but they were tough fighters and real strong. Ranma could see Bears being used as laborers all over the place.
One of the guards was a Tygar. He seemed fairly fierce, and he was dressed like some period samurai with two swords tucked into his sash. Tygars were apparently rarer, they were pretty strong but they didn't work well with common tasks and stuff. They liked to fight more than Bears did.
The one heading the guards wasn't a Tygar though. He was a sleepy old Lyorn. The lion-morph was pretty big and yawned a lot and he had the two swords in his belt but had a big old rifle too. His armor and weapons gleamed in the sun, and he looked to Ranma like someone who'd be really tough in a fight.
After seeing them and some of the other varieties, it was obvious to Ranma why his father had sent him here. THIS would be a heckuva place to train! He had to be able to defeat these pokeboys, and that was gonna take awhile.
