Except for the human child being obviously human and the pokegirl bearing the marks that indicated she was less so - they could have been mirror images.
For the human there was the strange feeling of looking into a funhouse mirror and seeing a version of yourself that wasn't quite right.
For the pokegirl there was the strangest feeling that one was seeing the version of yourself that could have been born human and continued on in a different role.
The families looked on as the two approached each other slowly, staring.
Finally a human hand reached out and touched a pokegirl hand, and there was a feeling of heat and tingling from that contact. They did not cancel each other out, merge, or otherwise come to a tragic end. Merely felt a sudden connection that almost ended when the two stepped back from each other, staring at their hands in identical poses.
This wasn't unnoticed, but just part of the family of Ranma (the pokegirls considered each other to be a sort of family) was meeting the family of:
