Iczeria: Petty [Episode 155983]

by Disruptor

While flying through space, Superman frowned at the images he picked up on his past viewer. By reading the lips of Salkor and Kara, he noticed something was wrong.

'That Red K asteroid shouldn't be there.'

Using the past-viewer, Superman figured out where the light rays would b to explain the Red K meteor. He glared at the picture he saw.

"Darkseid. What was he up to? It looks like that Boom Tube led...."

Superman flew forwards into time and became a phantom, as he stood in front of the old rocket ship Legion of Super-Heroes HQ. Knowing he couldn't be seen or felt, he walked through the aisles and spotted some damage to one of the corridors. A line of small cubicles was alongside one wall. Superman mentally ran through the list, as he walked past them.

'Sun Boy, Superboy, blasted panel, Star Boy. Wait a second...'

Superman started shaking with extreme anger, as he realized where he was and what was in the cubicles. He saw a blank area that a large machine should have been standing. Suddenly, the headquarters started shaking and Superman flew outside and saw Valadius attacking the Legion HQ.

'Cute Darkseid. Real cute. You do go to extreme lengths for petty vengeance.'

Superman left and headed back into the past, knowing the rocket-ship headquarters would soon be destroyed. He brought his hand to his face and held back the tears.

"Superman? Are you all right?"

Looking up, he saw Hal Jordan in his Green Lantern uniform.

"Hi Hal. I was trying to track down the truth behind Kara's marriage to Salkor. I think I found out the truth."

"What was it?"

"Darkseid playing games. If I used the time viewer, I would probably find that Salkor had offended or will offend Darkseid in the future."

"I don't understand," Hal said.

"Darkseid will go out of his way for petty vengeance. What I think happened is he grabbed a cloning machine and some tissue samples of Kara from the Legion of Super-Heroes HQ and he sent a clone to Salkor and used the same cloning tech to send one to the Fortress to record that message."

"Clones?"

"Not stable. Funny, here in the twentieth century, we have cloning technology that makes stable clones. In the thirtieth, the clones are unstable and blow up in about a month."

"What makes you say that?"

"Back when I was Superboy, the clones of Ferro Lad and Invisible Kid were tested to see if they would be viable and have all their memories. After a little while, they exploded."

Hal shook his head in disbelief. "That is a bit much for petty vengeance."

"Valadius of the Fatal Five. To get his vengeance on the Legion for chasing him away from Daxam, he kidnapped one of the newborn twin sons of Garth and Irma or Lightning Lad and Saturn Girl. He then caused the newborn child to mutate and grow and sent him back into the past to become Valadius. Too add to it, once Val was turned back into a human, it turned out that Darkseid had one last stunt. Val was a carrier for a new plague. The plague painfully mutated and killed the inhabitants of Garth's home planet. By the time it had run its course, the corpse looked like Valadius and it was given the name the Valadius Plague," Superman explained, while keeping his anger in check.

"Okay. Yes. That does show that Darkseid will go to extreme measures for petty vengeance."

Superman shook his head and looked at the past viewer. Green Lantern was about to say something, when he saw a streak of yellow light heading in their direction.

"Sinestro," Hal muttered.

Superman looked and saw the approaching beam of light. "That is not Sinestro."

The beam of light stopped in front of them and translucent yellow orb of light appeared. Soon the light faded and a female elf wearing a dark green bodysuit with a black metal bikini and black books over the bodysuit floated before them. The woman glanced at Hal and then stared hard at Superman.

"Yes. You are the one who is important to Iczeria. Where is she?"

"Who?" Superman asked.

"Iczeria or Iczer-1A."

"Look, I have never met this Iczeria person you are talking about. By the way, who are you?"

"I am Iczer-1B, but Big Gold dubbed me Zerib. I am hunting for my wayward sister to bring her back to the fleet, so we can claim our rightful place."

"Big Gold?" Superman asked, and then shook his head. "Never mind. What did she do that caused her to leave you."

"She was awake and left to find herself before Big Gold entered our minds and showed us our destiny."

Hal used his power ring to send a very low whisper to Superman's ears.

"Superman, the way she talks makes it sounds like she's under mind control. Get ready for a fight."

Zerib smiled evilly and gazed at Superman. "Since she must not know where you're at, she's probably hunting for you. I'll just capture you and wait."

"Capture me? Right. You really don't know what you're up against."

Zerib grinned and a yellow blade of energy appeared in her hands. "Neither do you."

Hal mentally sighed. 'Yellow? It just has to be more yellow. The Guardians really need to work on that.'

Superman dashed forward to try and grab Zerib's arms, but she turned into light and appeared behind Superman. Zerib raised her hand above her head and a ball of energy formed. She then pointed the ball at Superman and bolts of yellow lightning leapt from the sphere.

"Yaaaah! Moons of Krypton, what was that," Superman yelled, as he felt extreme pain from the attack.

"You are a little to slow," Zerib replied with a grin.

Hal quickly had his ring to a diagnostic on the energy blast.

Energy is a mixture of gravitational and psychic energies. Further analysis confirms that both energy forms are not blocked by Kryptonain bio-pattern protection.

"Meaning, Superman is vulnerable to this woman's attacks."

"Hal, can you stall her for a moment?"

"I'll try. Since she seems to be a flying Jedi..."

Hal used his ring to form a bunch of Imperial TIE fighters to harass Zerib. The space-elf licked her lips and smiled. She quickly dodged the laser bolts and started firing her own blasts of energy from her fist and destroyed a fighter with each shot. Superman was busy working on the past viewer. After a frantic few seconds, he snapped it closed and pointed the device at Zerib.

"I'll let you out when I get back to my fortress," Superman said, while pointing the modified past-viewer at Zerib.

He pulled the trigged and Hal and Superman watched as Zerib faded away.

"Phantom Zone?"

"Phantom Zone."

A bolt of yellow light slammed into the back of Superman. As he screamed, Hal turned around to see a widely grinning Zerib. Superman glanced back and saw Zerib.

Zerib chuckled. "Nice place. Too bad it can't keep someone like me from getting out."

"Sorry Superman," Hal said, as he formed a green bubble around Superman and flew the both of the far away from Zerib as fast as the ring could take them.

"Hal, why are we running?"

"You won't strike a woman. My ring is ineffective against yellow. That woman glows yellow and just got out of the Phantom Zone under her own power and she's after you. I am getting you to a place of safety before I go back and try to deal with her. I am also going to have to let the Guardians know what's going on."

Whatever else Hal was about to say was cut off as a glowing fist rammed itself into his stomach.

"You're taking my bait away from me. When Iczeria shows up, tell her that I have him."

Hal pushed past the pain and saw that Zerib was in front of him. Floating slightly behind her was a knocked out Superman. Zerib flung a metal case at Hal.

"Iczeria might want her clothes back from before she was turned into an Iczer."

Green Lantern wheezed as Zerib and Superman vanished in a bolt of yellow light. He absently grabbed the case with a glowing green hand and stared at the spot where Zerib once was.

"Superman has just been kidnapped."

Hal fired a beam in the direction of Oa with the information on what just happened. A glowing green Guardian head appeared before him.

"John Stewart and the other members of the Green Lantern Corps will be alerted to the situation. I think you had better head back to your ship and rest up."

Hal nodded and flew to the ship the Guardians gave him a while back. It server as a mobile home, medical center, and prison. Upon arriving, Hal shoved the metal case into a cabinet and headed for bed.
