Setsuna's Fault: Final Weapons [Episode 156550]

by Kestral

In any weapons development program, there were those who sought to "improve" things.

Senshi development had culminated with the henshin pens, the development of which had produced the disguise pen among other things.

Keeping in mind the Sailor Wars they had come to this system to leave behind, the power of the opponents they had faced, and the possibility of things even worse developing, something was desired by those magic-specialists who had faced those threats. It was even seen as a possibility by one that a major Senshi might go "bad" and start killing other Senshi then stealing their power for herself. While others considered this unlikely to the point of ridiculousness, the Queen at that time had listened.

That one specialist had been nuts. Brilliant but considered crazy. Eventually he'd created the paradox-limiter of the Gates Of Time, something meant to control the sort of temporal ripples that might come from an enemy trying to alter history. The Time Key Staff had been developed at the same time, so that a guardian could be pulled to the Gates if such an anomaly became an active threat.

He'd gone on to create the three Talismans and the Holy Cup, power focuses and a booster. Those had been taken and sealed away, because nobody wanted to destroy them in case they were needed - but couldn't see the need.

That one specialist had gone on, continuing to labor for long years. He'd developed minor items in his research, things like the Lens Of Focus, the Recall Mirror, and the Morpheus Jar. He developed items of great power like the Ginza Sword, the Shield Of Light, and the Tree Of Eternal Summer. He'd seen what the Court and Queen had done with those items, sealing away most of them where they'd become lost over the next several millenia.

Finally, at the apex of his research, he'd taken three recently killed volunteers' spirits and made the Final Weapons. Potentially more powerful than even the Senshi, each taken from a different group and fitting a different role.

One taken from a barbarian tribe on Earth, a warrior and survivor who wanted more from life than existance as a raider and pillager, who wanted to find a higher calling.

The second taken from the common soldiers, a warrior who had trained all his life to master the skills of battle.

The third a scholar and researcher, but one who had died saving others.

Three very unlike each other, three who embodied traits that could be worked with, three who had expressed interest in his work in the past. Three who were now Final Weapons.

The Queen and Court discovered the Final Weapons before activation and were horrified. The Final Weapons were sealed away, never to be spoken of or used again. The magic-specialist was himself sealed away, never to see light of day or touch the tools of research until time itself ended.

Then one day came a masquerade ball celebrating the defeat of Beryl's forces. The yoma and Invincible Shadow roared forth, but Queen Serenity did not use any of the tools available to her save the Senshi until it was too late.

She used the ginzuishou, gathering up the spirits of those available to send them forward - to be reincarnated again in some future era.

She did not consider the Final Weapons, nor that they might one day awaken and know what had taken place.

Except that as Hotaru went down the ancient stone stairwell, the bindings holding one of those Weapons had been broken long ago. Down there, waiting for someone to give purpose and cause to champion again was the re-cast Ranma (who in another timeline had been Saotome) - except now he was one of those three Weapons. Pluto's eyes widened as she read the engraved walls telling of the new Ranma, as she discovered that he was:
