Setsuna's Fault: Wild Stallion Of The Past [Episode 40274]

by Kestral

Pluto checked things in the past first, easiest as the timeline rewound itself and started over again.

The first surprise was that Nodoka and Genma Saotome had no children. None. No heir to marry off to the Tendo heir and unite the two schools of Anything Goes.

No it was an empty nest as far as that went.

Pluto puzzled over that as her earlier viewing indicated that Ranma would definitely end up with ties to at least one Senshi. So if he was gone, how could that be?

When she found it, it was several years later when the event she had expected to see was Geramatou possessing Soichiro Tomoe.

"Anything to save Hotaru?" asked the demonic being that had escaped the tanstaffel experiment. "Anything like - taking both of your bodies as servants for Pharoah 90?"

The wisp surged forward as Soichiro Tomoe gaped, thinking only of saving his little girl but now aware that he might be condemning her to a horrible fate.

Th-thump

"What?!" The wisp swirled around briefly. "What is this presence?"

Th-thump

Hotaru briefly opened her eyes and saw the transparent figure standing between her and the wispy deformed figure menacing her poppa. It kind of looked like Kamen Rider or some knight in armor.

"Who are you?! How dare you get between Pharoah 90 and the elimination of all life on this world?" demanded Geramatou.

Th-thump went the odd heartbeat-like sound. fuuuum went the eyes, flashing a cold blue radiance.

"Please, save Hotaru," said Professor Tomoe.

"Don't butt in," cried out Geramatou, surging forward.

fuuuum flashed the eyes again, one hand slashing out and cutting the demonoid in half.

The transparent figure turned towards Hotaru and moved towards her without a sound.

"No, stop, don't hurt her," called out the Professor, getting a sense of power emanating from this figure.

The figure knelt, and a white glow spread to cover Hotaru. She stopped struggling and straightened up, an expression of astonishment over her face.

The figure flickered and vanished then.

Sailor Pluto looked over the image just before the figure had flickered out. Lunarian sigils were visible along the armor. "Guardi-" was probably "Guardian" - the final stroke being concealed by the angle she'd been viewing at. The others were proving more difficult to read, partly due to angle and partly due to the flickering transparancy. Whatever he'd been was obscured by that, but her intuition was telling her that this was how Ranma had ended up re-woven into their lives.

THEY were not robot servants of Ranma, but HE looked to be THEIR guardian.

Hmmm. Here. Four years later. It looked like Professor Tomoe was taking his daughter on... archaeological digs. Wait a minute.

"Poppa-san, it's cold," complained little Hotaru.

Professor Tomoe had written and sketched everything he had remembered from that day, and thrown his efforts into tracking more detail down.

The knight's posture had been like a knight or samurai, showing fealty towards someone of higher rank. HE had been ignored, but Hotaru had been saved.

"In a moment, Hotaru-chan," said the Professor. "Can you put your hand on this carving?"

"Moh," pouted Hotaru, taking her mitten off and pressing her hand against the odd sigils written into the rock.

grunnnnnnnn answered the rock, shifting slightly. Naturally on faced with the wall actually responding, Hotaru stepped back with alarm.

"I thought so," said the Professor, leaning on his cane. His eyes flicked over the wall of the cavern, drinking in the details that had brought him here to a remote area of a very remote nation - Tibet. "Try again, Hotaru. Please."

Hotaru tentatively reached out again and brought her hand against the cold stone.

grunnnnnnnn chunk grunnnnnnnnn.

Hotaru involuntarily stepped back again as the wall parted in front of her, revealing a stone corridor that was clearly artificial.

Professor Tomoe smiled again, snapping pictures and writing details down. "The ancient technology clearly works. Hotaru, you'll have to lead me."

"Poppa?" said Hotaru, her face puzzled. "I hear singing."

"I don't hear anything," said the Professor. "What singing?"

"It's like that voice that guy in the jeep was playing," said Hotaru after considering.

"It's like a Wagnerian opera?" asked the Professor, a little surprised.

Sailor Pluto's eyes widened as she heard the singing herself. It was Lunarian, and it spoke of the purpose of the sleeping figure of Ranma. Apparently he was:
