Text-Based Yu-Gi-Oh GX: Discovering the Deck Theme [Episode 156763]

by Yasanagi

You draw Terraforming (Normal Magic). This card allows you to grab a Field Magic card from your deck and put it in your hand.

I have Field Magic cards? Well, may as well look up the general deck theme. Play it.

So that you're not spoiled, I'll give you the rough deck theme concept without telling you all the specific cards. Your father's deck is a Spellcaster theme (with a number of Dark Magician family Spellcasters) which also has a fair share of reusable magic cards like Axe of Despair and Horn of the Unicorn.

I see... what about Field Magic cards?

You have The Mausoleum of the Deceased Emperor (Field Magic) and The Lost Paradise (Field Magic).

Uh... stats?

The Mausoleum of the Deceased Emperor (Field Magic). During their turn, each player can Special Summon up to two Imperial Tomb Haniwa tokens at the cost of 500 LP per token. These tokens can only be used as a tribute to Normal Summon a high level monster. Considering how you have a number of high level monsters like Dark Magician, Dark Magician of Chaos and Dark Magician Girl, this card can prove to be pretty useful but it has to be used wisely since the opponent has access to the same effect.

Not too bad. This card makes high level monsters playable now...

As for The Lost Paradise, the original effect from Kagemaru's duel against Judai in the original anime is that during your Draw Phase, you draw three cards instead of one. And there's no side effect. Obviously, that's super broken so the programmer changed it a bit.

Oh?

So you still draw three cards a turn. But this time, you have to select two cards out of the three drawn this turn and put them back on top of your deck in any order. For each card you wish to keep in your hand beyond the first, pay 500 LP per card.

Somewhat toned down but still bloody broken. Is this a legal card?

It's definitely restricted but there's been no reason to ban this since it's a very rare card and that no duelist has ever really abused this card.

My old man really has quite a card collection... grab The Lost Paradise and play it. Set Negate Attack and end turn.

The Osiris Red trio lean over when you play your Field Magic card. "I haven't seen that type of card before," murmurs Hayato.

Say: "My dad had quite an extensive card collection and recently, it's been passed on to me. So there'll probably be a number of cards in this deck that aren't very well known."

Judai shrugs and draws for his Draw Phase. He plays Pot of Greed to draw twice more and activates Fusion Recovery to grab Polymerization and Elemental Hero Burstinatrix (3/1200/800) from his graveyard to his hand. He placed a card face down before attacking with Bladedge.

Activate Negate Attack.

His attack is stopped and the trio once again looks at your card funny since they're not used to seeing an Instant Magic version of Negate Attack.

Say: "Rare misprint of Negate Attack. It was hard to believe that I found it in my dad's collection."

"I don't suppose I can look through it one day? I mean... I wonder what other neat cards your dad used to collect!" said Sho.

Say: "Perhaps."

Judai has ended his turn and your turn begins. You draw three cards from the effect of The Lost Paradise which are Spider Web (Normal Magic), Draining Shield (Trap) and Magician's Valkyrie (4/1600/1800). What cards do you want to keep?

First, what's Spider Web and Magician's Valkyrie?

Spider Web (Normal Magic). Take one magic card that has been placed in your opponent's Graveyard in the previous turn and put it in your hand. Once it's been used, the card returns to the owner's Graveyard. As for Magician's Valkyrie, as long as it's face up on the field, your opponent can't select any other Spellcaster monsters as an attack target. So when two of these are on the field, the opponent has to resort to other methods to punch through.

Okay... I'll keep Spider Web only. Activate it to borrow Judai's Pot of Greed and then use it to draw Magician's Valkyrie and Draining Shield. Then set Draining Shield and summon Magician's Valkyrie in defense mode before ending the turn.

Judai draws a new card...
