Many guys liked to say that about the girls that they were interested in, either due to that girl's beauty, or because of some sort of really deep feeling, but Ranma Saotome could say that about his wife and actually be telling the complete and unvarnished truth. Of course, she was very beautiful, as she had a lovely and slim figure, a very pretty face, and a curtain of luxuriant ebony hair, but that didn't change what she was.
Skuld Saotome was a Norse goddess, and was one of the three sisters charged with keeping the computer that ran reality working.
It was strange to be able to say that, but as he walked along, Ranma couldn't help but feel good about his relationship. Not that it actually had anything to do with feelings of importance that a literal goddess had fallen in love with him. Rather, he found it amazing that someone like her could actually find someone like him to be worth her love. When he'd first been around her, he'd felt downright grubby, and it'd surprised him that she'd been nervous as well.
They'd met when his father had taken him to go to Nekomi in the never ending search for spots for them to practice. Even when there was nowhere to go, his old man had always been wanting them to keep on going. Fortunately for Genma Saotome, they'd both found something to be interested in. His father had started searching for the sources of the occasional strange events that would happen around town, and Ranma found the college. He didn't particularly feel comfortable around all this higher education, but when he'd discovered the race clubs, he'd been interested, especially when he'd recognized how fast they could go. When he'd discovered that one of the people helping out there was a cute brunette, he'd been really impressed, and hadn't hidden it, what with saying exactly what he'd felt to her face.
That was the beginning of his relationship with Skuld, and the two of them just seemed to spend a lot of time together. Her intelligence, and all that it could create had him thinking of her in very high terms, and she'd been amazed that he could manage the sort of ability in his Art that one would have never thought any human could. The two of them just seemed to gravitate toward each other, and they'd spent a lot of time together. Even though he'd known her sisters, he'd merely treated them fondly, and she'd never held what she knew of his father against him. For the first time in his life, he'd had a life outside of the Art, and plenty of friends to enjoy it with, and the most special out of all of it was one slim young woman.
When he'd discovered that she was a goddess, it set him back to being feeling tiny next to her. She'd accidentally used her powers where he'd been able to see, and he'd been floored by the revelation. But she'd taken it as an inability to accept what she was, and she'd been hurt by that. He'd only taken some time to absorb what sort of relationship he really had. So, she'd been quite surprised when he'd come to the shrine where she lived and asked for her like nothing had happened.
Of course, he hadn't realized what she was feeling for him until one day when Urd had been teasing him. He'd mentioned that he was glad that Skuld didn't look like that, and she'd walked off to her room. Confused, he'd followed her, and tried to get her to explain what her problem with him was, and when he discovered that she thought that he'd meant that she wasn't as attractive, he'd actually laughed. That had shocked her, and made her demand an explanation, to which he'd answered that Urd's manner of dress and behaving on occasion tended to creep him out. He liked the eldest of the sisters, but he wasn't quite sure that he would feel safe that she wouldn't try something embarrassing.
And he'd told her that he much rather liked her beauty, and that he really liked her.
Upon saying that, he had his arms full of a happily crying goddess, as she hugged him, and told him that she liked him too. With that single admission, the two of them had become boyfriend and girlfriend, and it quickly escalated. All through their rather eventful courtship, they'd never fallen apart, and managed to forge a bond that had only marriage as its logical end. In fact, he couldn't have seen any girl, or goddess, receiving his ring other than her. Their friends had to agree, as they'd had a wedding and reception that was warm and caring from the other two Norns, the Morisato siblings, and the various people that they'd met. To be honest, it'd seemed that everyone that they knew were happy for them.
Well, there was that one blonde with the slash marks on her face that didn't seem to be too happy, but then she didn't seem to like him very much anyway. Not that he entirely blamed her, as he kept on running into, but then she was supposed to be always trying bad things. However, whatever she did try to do seemed to keep getting messed up when he'd meet her. He didn't try to do it, but it just kept on happening. That woman, 'Marker', 'Mapper', 'Marta', or whatever name was, just seemed to have really bad luck where he was concerned.
But he had gotten some really good luck in his romantic areas, and as he passed an ice cream shop, he couldn't help but plaster a silly grin on his face.
"What's with you boy?" his father asked. "Are you that excited about today?"
"Nope. Just happy, and feeling very good."
"Well, you should. The gods have been very kind to you."
This time the pigtailed boy just let out a loud laugh full of mirth.
"What was that about?"
"Ya have no idea, old man," his son told him, smirking slightly as he thought about just how close he was to a literal trio of goddesses.
Genma, unaware of his son's marital status or his friendship with the Tendo sisters, merely blinked in confusion.
That was something that Ranma didn't mind at all, and he hummed to himself as he walked along, while:
