"Oh, how strange that being the one that fortune favors can be such trouble," he groaned, throwing his head back to stare at the ceiling as he walked. "It is such a dilemma, but if one is to have such difficulty, it is best to have it in such a form! Do you not agree?"
Kodachi lounged back in her chair and stretched her long legs out. "Dear brother, I am certain that you are locked between two things that you perceive as being great, but...."
"What question could there be?"
"Other than the one that asks just what your issue of difficulty is? Despite the fact that we do not usually eat as a family, you insisted that you wished that I join you for a small chat, and yet you have not informed me as to why."
"I have not?"
"You most certainly have not. All that I have received from you is mutterings of frustration with what is apparently a choice between two alluring options."
"I see," he replied, her words bringing him to a stop. "The situation is one that is quite changed from what I expected. Today, I met family of the wondrous Ranko Tendo."
"Have you now?"
"Oh, yes. Upon the completion of the fair and pure Akane's battle with the fools who think that they can win her, I was set to talk to her. But a stranger approached her and started a conversation, to which I was understandably concerned."
"You mean that your obsession for that girl made you jealous, dear brother."
"I will admit to some... discomfort, yes. However, I do not obsess. I merely hold a love in my heart that is bright and true."
"I know your... feelings on the subject, and do not feel like discussing them further. Go on with your tale," she told him, negligently waving a hand at him.
"Do not order me about, sister. I will continue due to my desire to do so. Despite your words, there was no reason for me to worry. That boy was in actuality her uncle, the beautiful Ranko's younger brother."
"So she has an uncle. Interesting. What was this one like?"
"Ranma Saotome is a strong and honorable warrior who not only allowed me to show my strength, but welcomed the chance to do so. I may have fallen, but I will prove myself to him!"
"Really?"
"Yes! Understand this, sister. He is a true warrior who I can only find respect and admiration for. One day I will make him see that I am strong enough to be worthy of Akane's hand, and if the chance to fight by his side comes up, I will do so with a happy heart."
"Must be one interesting individual...."
"Yes, and his sister was another surprise," Tatewaki murmured, smiling slightly.
"Oh? Has your model of feminine perfection done something new?"
"Not her personally, but...."
"Who then?"
"Her sister! There is a sister to the lovely Ranko who has a form that is near on to identical to her elder sister! And she has such a vibrant spirit that I could tell was immediately taken with my manliness!"
"Has she now...."
"How could she not?! Such a lovely young image of a woman would certainly fall for the charms of one such as myself."
"And does this... 'paragon' have a name?"
"I... did not manage to secure a moment to get it."
Smirking slightly, the gymnast spared her brother an amused glance. "You are falling down on the job, brother dear."
"Do not worry on my account, sister. For I will discover the name of this new shining example of beauty, and have her join me by my side as is her proper place."
"But what of poor Akane? Will you be giving up on her?"
"That did cause my heart significant aches, but in the end, I realized something. Do I not have two sides? I must have them both!"
"Is that so?"
"Absolutely!" Kuno insisted. "Such wonderful examples of womanhood are deserving of having only my hands upon them, and they come with the bonus of being connected with that model of perfection, Ranko Tendo. Surely, this is the will of the heavens, and fate, working to these ends."
Her eyes watched the way he was puffing his chest out, but Kodachi wasn't really paying attention to what she was seeing. It was something that she was all too familiar with, and there were other things that really mattered in this moment. Listening to her brother prattle on was not one of them, but she was fine with humoring him for the evening, while:
