Ranma had to wipe his eyes as he rose from his slumber. "Damn, why do I feel like shit?" He thought to himself as he looked around the room. As he surveyed the room, last night came to him. "Uhh...Party at Nabiki's friend's house..." Then he realized the source of his headache. "Someone spiked the punch," He muttered. Yeah, that had to be it. How cliche.
Ranma realized he was among the first to wake up, and stumbled from room to room. There were a whole bunch of people he knew and some he didn't, all of them were either sleeping in the arms of some other unlikely person or some such. Wow. There were going to be a lot of problems when they all woke up. He tried to remember if he was in that position when he woke up, but when he'd woken up, it didn't occur to him that it was possible. Then he realized he was shirtless and grumbled; trying to find his shirt was useless, it could have bene anywhere in this sea of people.
Ranma headed outside, still shirtless, and maybe a bit embarrassed. He stumbled a bit of the way, still waking up when he heard someone nearby being hassled.
"Let go of me," He heard a female voice in distress and tried to figure out where it was coming from. "I said let go!" The girl nearly screamed. Ranma heard some ripping sounds and this jolted him out of his stupor. Was someone about to be...? He seriously started searching for the sounds and found they were coming from behind the house. He went as quickly as he could to the back, with the intent of saving one distressed female from a possible rapist.
The man had just then thrown the girl onto the ground, and was fumbling with his own clothes. He was still very much drunk. The girl spotted screamed as Ranma neared the man and punched him in the face. His aim was to subdue the man without hurting him; as he was trained in the martial arts, his duty was to protect everyone, and that meant avoiding unnecessary permanent harm to people who didn't really know what the hell they were doing. The man glared up at Ranma while Ranma had his back turned to the girl, helping her up and telling her to run.
Three things happened then in a specific order.
The world seemed to slow down as the girl screamed. She seemed to be frantically yelling about the man behind Ranma. Ranma slowly turned around to face the man when he realized something. He had forgotten to take all things into consideration. If he didn't have the major headache, Ranma would have considered the possibility that this man was "Packing Heat". Unfortunately, he didn't even think of it for a second. Ranma realized in that one second, that it would be his downfall. Saotome Ranma, defeater of dragon princes, gods, Chinese amazons and even sometimes cats, would be laid low by a drunk man with a gun.
And then Ranma realized, that he was dead. This small room he was in...Where was he, anyway? Hell? Heaven? Some other place? He couldn't quite figure it out. And where had that man gotten a gun, anyway? Guns were illegal in Japan.
That was when a voice suddenly came about from around him.
"So you finally figured it out, eh?" the voice was feminine, and he didn't recognize it. He blinked and nodded, as if it was the only thing to do. "Well you're in luck, pal." The voice materialized into a young girl with markings on her face. She looked young, younger than he had been when he died, but that was about all he could tell right away. "You get a second chance," The girl said to him. Once again, he nodded, as if he knew this. Of course, why else would his Judgement have been delayed like this? The purpose of this room was obviously for him to come to terms with his death, so that he would not act badly when given his new body. Of course, he had no idea where this information was coming from. "You're going to be reincarnated," She said to him. He nodded, having expected that. "With your memories intact," she said. This time, he blinked in confusion. "Yes, it might pose a problem, but we're sure you can handle it," She said. Ranma shrugged. They were the gods, after all. "So anyway, your new body will be that of..."
