Scroll Saga: Confusion [Episode 161107]

by Master Roy

Setsuna watched the Time Gates with growing confusion as several possible abilities played out in front of her at once. The images playing out in front of her were showing several futures that had no roots. Something was creating possible futures seemingly out of nothing...

The timelines she was watching all involved something she knew was vital that would change the future of not only Earth, but all of the Solar System. Unfortunately, she could not tell what it was. She couldn't tell if the great freeze had occurred or not, and any other major factors that contributed to the existence of Crystal Tokyo, because these timelines were untraceable.

Unlike other timelines that consisted of a major divergence, these had just...appeared out of nowhere. While others had a root-system she could follow to the original timeline (much like a family-tree), this one generated itself out of nothingness. It went back a certain amount of time and then there was nothing.

This was a strange find, too, in that Setsuna would never have even noticed it had she not decided to analyze the possible futures that could occur with her current circumstances. Even the Saotome boy couldn't hide his possible futures; so this meant something even more chaotic than him was generating a protective field so strong the gates couldn't even determine the possibilities it spawned.

Which meant there was something even more dangerous and unpredictable than Saotome, Saffron, or anything else she'd noticed before on Earth. (And she'd noticed a lot of them in Japan, which supremely disturbed her.)

And Setsuna knew then that there were only a few things powerful enough to evade even the Time Gates. The Ginzuishou for one, a jewel composed of the soul of a priestess with enough spiritual power to rival that of her late Queen Serenity as well as 3 formidable demonic souls, The Golden Power, which had been hidden away in another dimension long ago by the Moon Kingdom's predecessors, the Eternal Sword, which was currently floating on Derris Kharlan some light-years away, the World Tree, which was still on Earth but not completely understood by those near it, and...the Chaos Emeralds.

"The Chaos Emeralds..." She frowned, then sighed and prepared to fetch some records of the Chaos Emeralds...

Usagi stared up at her ceiling as she tried to fall asleep. There were so many things confusing her at the moment that she couldn't, however.

"Why hasn't Setsuna showed up to tell us about this threat?" She knew there was no one there to answer her, but she voiced it aloud anyway. "Does she even know?" Usagi shook her head; of course she knew. But why would Setsuna have told them there would be nothing before Crystal Tokyo? "This is really weird," She muttered. She turned over on her side and closed her eyes, intent on getting sleep.

An hour later, when it still did not come, Usagi sighed as she got out of bed to go downstairs and get some water.

Ranma sat up on the roof of the Tendo home while he stared up at the stars. "Man, who was that crazy chick?" He wondered. "Why the hell did she leave when the lights came back on? I thought she was the one doing that," He muttered. She was really confusing him - something Ranma didn't like, especially when it came to girls. He looked down at his hands in silent contemplation. "Where the hell did she come from...and why does she seem familiar?" Ranma stared up at the full moon.

"It's calling me..." he muttered. "The moon has something I need," His voice began to grow in volume as he stood up. "Tomorrow, I start training Akane," He said up at the moon. "What're you gonna do about it?" He growled as if challenging the moon. "I should get to sleep. Dealing with Akane, and then the fiance brigade when they find out courtesy of Nabiki," he muttered. "It'll be a miracle if I survive tomorrow," he sagged. That was when he remembered something and unconsciously reached into subspace to reveal a large, green emerald in his hand. "And just where did you come from?"

The emerald glistened ominously. Ranma knew from the sheer size of it that Nabiki would kill him to get her hands on it, and he had no doubts to her ability when presented with such a prize. It was a good thing he somehow just knew how to put it back and forth to... wherever... the way he was. And it was strange that whenever he held it, a strange thought came to him.

"Chaos Control," He muttered. Nothing happened, and the unnaturally large jewel only shined in the moonlight. He snorted again, ready to put it away again, to try and figure it's mystery out later, when another thought occurred to him for a second. "I'll keep it out for now," he said as he jumped off of the roof, over the fence and even onto the street. His new flying abilities made it impossibly easy to jump such a distance. Unfortunately, Ranma had now intention to be mistaken for a space ship, so he settled for walking through the streets.

Ranma suddenly stopped walking, tossing the emerald up a few times, expertly catching it. He calmly closed his eyes, following the motions of his new images completely. "Chaos...CONTROL!" He yelled the immortal command, the two words that in conjunction with an emerald gave one the ability to control space...and time. Ranma blinked as he stared at the Emerald, thinking that nothing had happened. Absently kicked a nearby rock up...to never hear it come down on the ground. The rock, after reaching it's maximum ascent, had...frozen.
