When the secretary called his name, and waved him in, he straightened his back, and was certain that he could take it like a man.
"Hello," he said... and got a good look at the man rising from behind the desk.
"Hello, you must be Urashima, the new archeology professor," the administrator commented as he looked him up and down. "Interesting look to you."
"Ummm.... Thank you?"
"You're welcome."
Keitaro didn't know what to do about those words, so he merely nodded, and tried to take in the image of the man he was talking to.
The administrator looked like he'd barely managed to to have a couple of inches over five feet tall, but had a girth that seemed to be attempting to make up for the lack of height. That wasn't to say that he was really fat, but he did have some weight to him. His ears seemed to want to rise up above his head, rather than to the sides, and his features all seemed to be rounded in some way shape or form. Added in was the puffy bit of hair he had, and he didn't look to be the image of a professional educator.
"I am Mister Kumako, and I'll be handling the assigning of your teaching assistant today," the administrator told him. "And remember, that's 'Kumako'. Not 'Kuma'. I already have students mistaking him for me, and the other way around. I don't need teachers doing so too."
"I suppose that it's the name... sir...." Keitaro suggested weakly.
"I am not stupid, Mister Urashima. But then, considering the fact that Mister Kuma is much bigger than I am, I'm not sure about some other people."
"Ahhh...."
"Now, just so that you know, we'd normally leave the filling of the position to the teacher who the assistant would be working for, but since you're new to the job, we think that it'd be better if we picked your help."
"Oh, I already understood that."
Kumako raised a bushy brow at him. "Oh?"
"Yeah. After all, I've only been the assistant, never the teacher, so this is kind of knew to me. To tell the truth, I'm not sure that I'd ever be able to come up with an idea of who'd be a good candidate for the job. And since I was already told that the assistant would be picked for me, I didn't really have any reason to think that it would be different than that."
"Will wonders never cease...."
"Sir?"
"Nothing important. Since we're on the same thought path here, let's get on with business."
Feeling certain that things were progressing nicely, Keitaro smiled a bit. "Then what do we do?"
"You take this folder and read up."
"Anything else?"
"Yes. That's the information on your assistant, and you go over it before, during, and after you talk with that person."
"Really.... Okay...." the new professor murmured, while:
