Senshi Hearts: The World That Never Was And The Princess Who Would Have Been Queen [Episode 161697]

by Vel

Usagi was not a happy camper by any means as she attempted to take one step. Finding that her legs weren't going to give out underneath her like last time, the princess pushed off the brick of the rather impressive hotel she had been leaning on. One halting step forward after another carried her down the freshly paved streets of this seemingly abandoned metropolis. Her steps echoed loudly down the alleyways and up the avenues, sending a shiver down her spine as she was once again reminded of how utterly wrong her new surroundings were.

For a city this size, there should've been the honking of traffic as automobiles buzzed around, the shouting of people over one other as they tried to justify their existence by interacting with others, but for the hour she had been in this strange new world she hadn't heard or seen hide or hair of anyone.

Suddenly, with a gasp of pain, Usagi clutched her head as pain lanced through her skull, sending her sailing forward as she lost her balance. Liquid agony poured into her mind as lights flashed madly behind her eyelids, and with a faint moan of terror at what was going to happen to her, she crashed to the ground in a crumbled up heap as blessed darkness claimed her.

An unknown amount of time later, the ragged looking girl heaved herself to her feet, noticing with a slight shake that the angelic appearance of her senshi outfit was gone, her outfit resembling what she used to wear back when Luna was originally with her. The moon princess' eyes narrowed a fraction of an inch as she heard the rattling sound of something metallic scratching against the road. Her battle honed reflexes allowed her to swiftly, if not gracefully, turn to face whatever had tried to sneak up on her.

A can rolled out from another seemingly empty alley, causing the moon princess's nerves to twitch. 'I'm getting too jumpy.' Usagi sighed in relief as she quickly hobbled her way towards the entrance of the alleyway, briefly wondering about her other senshi as she felt her head pulse once again...

They had discussed it as a possibility at the time, but now Usagi had first hand experience that what Ami said was true, they were going to lose their powers soon. Maybe. Possibly. The moon princess eyed the tattered and frayed edges of her skirt as she remembered what Ami had told them even as they had huddled closer together in an attempt to prolong their time together as the time bubble that had protected them slowly wore down.

"We can't take our powers for granted once we arrive, the fundamental rules of the world may very well reject the way our magic works."

Ami had explained to the assembled group of senshi as she nudged her visors slightly up on her nose in what Usagi knew to be a nervous gesture. "However, it could just as easily find a way to work our powers in it. These are all equally valid theories at this point. If I only had a little more time to analyze all this data." The blue haired genius looked pained at the admission of ignorance even as her friends drew closer to offer her comfort.

After the field around the Time Gate had shattered, the moon princess had desperately tried to claw her way through the swirling madness of potential and existing worlds to get at her senshi, even as their bright spirits seemingly faded away as some invisible force had conspired to keep her away from her friends. Her eyes teared up as she remembered seeing those sparks of light - her last ties to her world, be inevitably draw away from her, and she felt an all too familiar shudder run through her frame as her heart clenched.

"Mamoru."

Usagi raised shredded and flimsy gloves to her face to obscure her vision of the brightly glowing lights of the city around her. The city continued to merrily glow around her as the moon princess broke down and cried...

From the shadows, something lurked and watched the princess as darkness began to slowly surround the heroine's heart...
