Despite being creatures of magic and powerful beyond anything human ingenuity had yet managed even in an age of technological wonders, they were still beings prone to urges of life. To feed, though each chose a different diet for themselves in the hundreds of millions of years of their lifetimes. Some liked mortal flesh, others only on the rock and heat and minerals of the deep earth, others liked seafood and gave rise to the legends of Leviathan.
One of those urges was to reproduce, however as all six of them were MALE - that had a few problems involved.
One of the dragons, who had spent most of his time in areas of the orient, was fond of humanity. Even more to his credit, it was not as part of his diet. This particular worthy, Tien Lung being a name given him but not exactly his true name, had reproduced a few times with willing human females while taking the form of a somewhat elderly but pretty darn virile man. The children were healthy, and raised healthy, which was a pretty good plus for preindustrial societies. Eventually the draconic gifts died down and any talents they had seemed to dry up.
In this universe there was a man named Genma Saotome who met a young girl when stealing her panties one night. Yes, he was weird, and so was she. After all, a girl who finds an overweight panty-thief attractive has got some issues of her own.
They had a son named Ranma who was taken away from home when he was five years old by his father, taken on a training trip where he would live and breathe and constantly practice the martial arts. His style was the Saotome School Of Anything Goes Indiscriminate Grappling, but he learned jiu jitsu and aikido and jeet kun do and muy thai and any other art that could be crammed into the boy's head.
Eventually he MIGHT have been taken to a place called the "Cursed Springs Of Jusenkyo", where over two hundred tragic stories of drowning had imprinted a transformation curse into a matching spring. He, who had been raised without female contact and who had constantly been told how weak girls were and who had a seppuku contract that he become a "man among men" would have been taken to Jusenkyo. He would have been cursed to turn into a girl with cold water, reverting under hot water, and he would have ended up in a slapstick situation with a number of problems.
Except that this world wasn't quite so slapstick. Except that both parents were descended from Tien Lung. Except that a Wizard saw the boy at one point and cast a spell to awaken that portion of his heritage. It didn't quite work until a dimensional disturbance caused a Ranma from another universe and a later point in time to merge with his slightly younger self. At that point the spell went off.
The Ranma Saotome that resulted from a day and a night of fevers had changed, to his father's astonishment. Eyes of gold now shone from his face, his hair had become a sort of dark purple. He was taller, more thickly muscular, and seemed somehow harder than before. His attitude had changed too. He smiled less, was more brooding, and did something that alarmed Genma even more than the fact he seemed distrustful of his own father.
Staring out into the night, he whispered a word. "Hotaru."
Genma looked out into that night himself. "It's just embers from the campfire. Too cold out for fireflies."
"No, not bugs. Her. Hotaru. She's gone."
"You're getting soft boy?" Genma sneered at the melancholy expression on his son's face. When had he met some girl anyway? Best to discourage things like that before he could meet Tendo's daughters. "Forget about girls, they'll just distract you from the Art and make you wea-"
Ranma's arm almost seemed to teleport, he was cupping his knee with that hand and before a tenth of a second passed it was imbedded in his father's jaw. The impact sent Genma back across the campsite like a soccer ball heading for a winning goal. When he finally came to a stop he saw more stars in the sky than were actually there.
"I seem weak to ya?" asked Ranma, golden eyes gleaming as he stood. "She's gone. Don't worry about her. You ever say anything against her though, Pops, you'll be eating your next meal through a safety straw."
Genma could read the threat level, and the seriousness of his son. Whatever had happened, he was not joking nor exaggerating.
