Dresdenverse Senshi: Ranma 2/1 [Episode 166397]

by Kestral

He was the child of two ancient lines that originated with a much more ancient dragon.

His powers had begun awakening when he'd merged with his Other Self.

His precious friend, a gentle soul who'd touched his heart, was dead and gone.

Ranma's golden eyes looked into the fire, his black-purple hair gleamed, and he brooded.

In that other world, he had grown up as a martial artist son much as he had here. Unlike in THIS lifetime, he'd run across a girl being bullied. He'd helped her and a friendship had bloomed for the brief period he'd been in the area. She had called him 'sempai' and he had gone over everything he could to strengthen her health. She'd apparently been hurt in a lab explosion where she'd lost her father. Her mother was dead much longer. She had no one.

Scrolls, special foods, shiatsu massage and such to get her healthier. She'd been a dark little girl, but when she'd smiled at him...

When his father had gotten ready to move again, Ranma had done what he could. Little Hotaru was so helpless, was someone who needed him, who stirred that primitive part of him that had said that abandoning a little girl was WRONG.

Gone now. The world sundered. The last letter he had written her still clutched in his hand, his father yelling something nonsensical but a Master. He'd looked up and saw the sun shattering in a manner his mind still had trouble grasping.

Now he was here, in a form that was stronger. He'd felt the changes occurring through him, but he'd been rather busy putting the memories together to notice. Now he did.

Ryu. It could have been his name as well as his nature, but he would remain Ranma. For now.

He was stronger, tougher, more powerful than he had been - but all he could taste was ash. His life, his friend - they were gone. Dead. In that death he'd realized how much a few short months had allowed some little girl to become the sister he'd wished he had had.

Now he was just stuck with a dumb father dragging him to some dumb place in Nerima. He didn't understand WHY his father thought it was so important, he'd just humor the old fool for a little while - then go off by himself when he had a better idea of where to go. Someplace where he'd feel renewed maybe, or maybe train and find out exactly what he could do.

"'Tendo Dojo'," read Ranma. "'To challenge dojo in savage combat use rear door'?"

"I was originally going to take you to a Chinese training ground, but when you got ill," explained Genma. "I decided we should do this first."

"Huh," said Ranma. "We're not using the rear door?"

"No," said Genma, ringing the bell. "I already sent a postcard saying we were coming."

Ranma's frown eased a little bit. Maybe it'd be nice to sleep in a real bed for once. Maybe his old man was actually looking out for him for once.
