Lina left the place where she gained her new powers with a determined look on her face.
'I need some bandits to attack,' Lina thought.
She soon found a small group of bandits in a forest north of the shrine. Lina smiled slowly.
'They might not be rich bandits, but at this point I don't care.'
Lina proceeded to clobber the bandit gang and quickly relieved them of their treasure.
'At least one good thing came out this Sailor Magic nonsense. I can store a lot in the various subspace pockets,' Lina thought, as she stripped the treasure room bare. 'I can't get to the sword, unless I transform though.'
Lina mentally smiled, as she left the remains of New Bandits on the Block gang behind her. She had gained a fair bit of money and did not have Naga to deal with for a little while. As she walked east, she felt a slight buzzing in her head. Frowning, Lina stopped and tilted her head one way and then the other way. She looked to a road leading south and started walking down it.
'Why do I feel like I have to in this direction?' Lina thought to herself.
After about an hour, Lina saw a village at just outside the forest she was walking through. Instead of going into the village, she stopped and felt the buzzing in her mind get stronger. Lina used Raywing to fly up to hide in the branches of a tall tree and looked down. She saw the town sheriff and his men quivering, as they headed a bit into the forest.
"Find some travelers for me to play with," a strange voice called.
Lina looked in the direction that the voice came from and her eyes narrowed. She saw a being that had stood on three legs, had a body shaped like a barrel with six arms leading from it, and its head looked like someone had bisected a man's head in half and glued the left side back on upside down.
"Mazoku," Lina whispered.
Lina's left arm involuntarily opened, and the rod appeared in it. Lina strained against the compulsion to raise the rod above her head with to no avail.
"Magic Crystal Power! Make Up!
After the obligatory twirl of lights, Sailor Magic jumped from the tree and landed in front of the Mazoku.
The creature of hatred and darkness reeled back in surprise as Sailor Magic landed in front of him/it. "Who are you?"
As she spoke, Sailor Magic made various motions with her arms. "I am the beautiful sailor suited soldier: Sailor Magic! For love and justice, I will punish you!"
'Why am I saying this?' Lina thought desperately. 'It is so stupid!'
The Mazoku laughed and said, "Well, Sailor Magic. That was a good laugh. I am servant of Dynast Grausherra: the Mazoku Blarvex. I accept your challenge to a fight."
Blarvex fired a blast at Lina, who instinctively jumped up. What caught both Lina and Blarvex off guard was that Lina jumped over two hundred feet straight up. Sailor Magic did a somersault in mid-air and kicked Blarvex in the face. Right before her boot hit, Lina's leg started softly glowing. As Blarvex fell, Sailor Magic used him as a springboard to do a somersault jump away from him. Lina easily made a perfect two-point landing and watched a bit stunned as Blarvex fell over.
'I just hurt a Mazoku with a kick? And that jump I just did...,'
Lina shook her head to clear it and prepared herself for her next move. Blarvex roared to his feet and his legs spun around like a demented top as the Mazoku charged Sailor Magic. Lina concentrated and the Blast Blade appeared in her hand. Blarvex saw the lavender blade too late and was impaled upon the sword. Sailor Magic watched in satisfaction as the Mazoku turned into black smoke and dispersed.
The sheriff dropped to his knees and cried out. "Thank you! Thank you! He was terrorizing our town! You'll get a reward for helping us out!"
Before she jumped away, Sailor Magic shook her head and replied, "That's not why I did this."
'What is wrong with me?' Lina thought. 'I never turn down rewards.'
Lina struggled to stop moving, but could only ride along as a passenger in her own body. She soon returned to the site where she had gained the Sailor Magic powers and stood on the altar. The marble altar glowed a bright pink and Lina felt silly, as she stood as still as a statue. The image of a mage in blue robes appeared in front of Lina.
"Greetings, Sailor Magic," the image said. "You probably have some questions about what just happened. I guess I first should say who I was. I was Shazall Ragandi."
"The great mage Shazall Ragandi?" Lina whispered in shock.
"When you took up the Sailor Magic abilities for the first time, you felt various compulsions to seek out a Mazoku and fight it. This is to give you a taste and a trial run of your powers. After defeating it, the compulsions would bring you back here to hear your history and what compulsions still remain."
"That explains why I acted so stupid," Lina muttered. "I hope this explanation is short. I want to be able to move under my own direction again."
The image of the mage bowed his head and Lina could see great pain on his face. "After my friend Rei Magnus succumbed to the piece of Ruby Eye that was sealed within him, I worked on various ways to fight that piece of Shabranigdo."
'Cephied's blood, the Demon King of the North used to be Rei Magnus!' Lina thought in horror and stopped struggling against the compulsion that held her still.
"Rei had came up with a way to look into other worlds and remove small things from those worlds. I copied his work and started peering beyond the four that he knew of. On one of those worlds that I looked upon, I saw something that could be of great value. They were called Sailor Senshi. They were tied to a planet that gave them powers. Their attacks were laced with love and other positive emotions. I watched and researched hastily and created the rod that you used. I tied it to this planet. You are linked to the magic of this world. If the book is still there, you already know you can not use Black Magic while powered up. The reason for this is that you channel love and friendship and other positive emotions through your body as you attack. This will not affect your own emotions"
Lina mentally started struggling to once more move her own body, but to no avail.
"You will soon be able to move and only three compulsions will remain. The first is that if you can't deal with a Mazoku who is terrorizing humans, you will be compelled to transform into Sailor Magic at the first opportunity. If you want to keep your Sailor Magi activities a secret, then the compulsion will allow you to hold off until you can get away to change. If the Mazoku is one of the higher ranks like a priest, general, or Dark Lord, you'll be allowed to run away. You can't do your job if you are dead. The second compulsion is the speech when introducing yourself."
'NO! I sound like an idiot doing that!' Lina frantically thought.
"The final compulsion is after the Mazoku is dead is to leave the area as quickly as possible and turn down any rewards as you are leaving. Sailor Magic was created to inspire hope."
'I have to do this for free?! My merchant's blood is already boiling at this,' Lina thought in disgust.
"Your powers as Sailor Magic are fairly simple to start out with, but as you grown into the role, new powers will emerge. This will depend on your personality and how much magic you know. Well good luck to you and bring hope to the people that are being terrorized by the Mazoku."
The image of Shazall Ragandi faded and the marble altar stopped glowing. Lina felt control over her body returning to her.
'This is a curse. I have to fight Mazoku for free?' Lina thought, with tears streaming down her face.
She thought back to the battle with Blarvex and gave a sad smile. 'That was a rush, being able to hurt a Mazoku like that. I just want to be able to do it on my own terms.'
