The current situation was not like that.
Yokosuka had swapped with an uninhabited area, but as it was ten miles in radius and had a few ships in attendance, things were getting heated on an international basis as the various groups tried to figure out what had happened. Given time, all the crackpot theories and people bumping the stories with random sound-bites would have the effect of putting the Yokosuka Event in with the Tunguska Explosion, Roswell Incident, Bigfoot Sightings, and other things of that general category. Even those who might have been able to come up with an explanation would steer clear of it rather than have their careers trashed by working on something with so much nonsense associated with it.
In the meantime, some Sailor Senshi, a Ranma Saotome, a large number of other people, and the air/naval show going on were not only elsewhere but elseWHEN.
Making things even more special was that WHEN.
