The timeslip itself lasted barely a second. The island and a ten mile radius was exchanged with an asteroid of similar mass.
Ranma was aware of all the girls and the beach and sun one minute. One gal was in the process of returning a volleyball, another was out in the surf, another was running along the beach, one gal was wearing a cheerleader costume and looking at her laptop, three gals went past him at a fast jog, and so on.
Then there was a bright flash.
The next thing he knew was that everything was wrong. There was a brief wind that petered out and suddenly there was no air. He was floating too, drifting away from the ground along with everything else.
He could see the various gals doing pretty much the same thing, except one. The gal in the cheerleader outfit was going into absolute panic but SHE was still rooted to the ground and apparently talking as she did something with that computer.
At least it looked like she was talking, Ranma realized that he couldn't hear her - and very quickly he was trying to draw a breath that just wouldn't come.
