Slayers Power: Mission [Episode 163470]

by Disruptor

At the great palace in the city of Eternos, Prince Adam was just finishing another sparring session with Teela. He also had to deal with some of the taunts that Teela threw his way about his laziness. A very powerful telepathic message cause him to stumble and Teela knocked him down with her staff.

'Prince Adam, come to Greyskull immediately.'

Adam rubbed his head as Teela looked down at him.

"I tripped you. I didn't hit you in the head," Teela said. "Are you all right?"

"A very bad headache. If you'll excuse me," Adam said, as he stood up.

Teela watched him go and bit her lower lip. 'Do headaches come on that fast?'

Adam found Cringer in the horse stable and pulled his sword.

"By the power of Greyskull!"

The bolt of light startled the horses, even as Adam turned into He-Man and pointed his sword towards Cringer. A beam of light shot forth from the sword and Adam's pet became Battlecat. He-Man quickly mounted his steed and the two rushed out of the stable. He-Man found Man-at-Arms getting one of the Wind Raiders ready. Man-at-Arms nodded, as he looked at He-Man.

"You got the summons as well?" Man-at-Arms asked.

"Very forcefully. I wonder what's going on," He-Man replied

"We won't know until we get to Greyskull."

He-Man jumped off of Battlecat and got into the passenger side of the Wind Raider. Battlecat lay down in the backseat of the vehicle, as Man-at-Arms started it up. Before the aircraft could leave, Teela saw them and came running forward.

"Father, what's going on? Is it Skeletor?" Teela asked.

"I'm not sure Teela. We'll let you know when we find out," Man-at-Arms said.

"I'm coming with you," Teela stated.

He-Man and Man-at-Arms looked at each other.

"No, Teela. You have to stay here and protect the palace," Man-at-Arms said.

"And protect the oh so brave Prince Adam," Teela muttered.

"Teela! Adam did try to fight Skeletor's forces," Man-at-Arms said.

"He got himself captured and we had to rescue him," Teela said bluntly and then her face softened. "I wonder if that's the reason for his headache. He tried and failed miserably."

Man-at-Arms looked at his daughter in a bit of an annoyance. "Yes. He did try. Think on it."

Without any further interruptions, the Wind Raider left for Castle Greyskull.

"I wonder where they are going," Teela whispered to herself.

After a bit of time, the Wind Raider touched down near Castle Greyskull and the trio entered the ancient structure. They walked through the corridors decorated with gargoyles as He-Man looked around.

"For a place dedicated to knowledge, this place is very creepy," He-Man said. "I used to tell ghost stories about this place when I was younger.

"Castle Greyskull wasn't designed to attract visitors, let along inquisitive youth. Its origins date back to a dark time when war ravaged across the face of the planet. It was the center of a kingdom and an ark holding knowledge for future generations. There are many stories about Greyskull and it is hard to separate fact from fiction," Man-at-Arms said.

As the two men entered a large room, a woman wearing a green bodysuit and white skirt stood up. Two wings spread from her back.

"That is true Man-at-Arms. The origins of Greyskull are lost to the mists of time. Time has added to the mysteries of the castle. Even now, a new mystery about Greyskull has arisen. That is why I have summoned you both here," the Sorceress said.

"A new mystery?" He-Man asked.

The Sorceress waved her staff in front of her and a window showing a teen-age girl, a blonde warrior wielding some kind of energy blade, and a man made of stone facing off against a huge demon. The group watched as the fight progressed and the girl did something to the sword to cause it to fire off a bolt of black energy, which caused the demon to crumble into dust.

"What was that about?" He-Man asked.

The Sorceress motioned with her hand and a book came floating towards her, as the view changed to an overhead view.

"Recently, Greyskull has been showing visions of that girl and showing images of places to find a couple tomes," the Sorceress explained. "The image you see now is where to find a tome. This book here has the knowledge that the other book lacks. You must travel to where that book is and take both of them to the girl that was just shown. It is of the utmost importance, even if it means Eternia will fall to Skeletor."

The tow men gasped at that proclamation.

"Sorceress, you can't be serious," Man-at-Arms said.

The Sorceress looked up towards a skylight and shook her head. "I have never been more serious in my life. The power of the Elders has shown that this must be done. There is more. The place is beyond the power of Greyskull and it will have to be Prince Adam that goes."

"How am I going to explain this to my father?" He-Man asked, as he lifted his sword. "Let the power return!"

After transforming back into Adam, he sheathed his sword and looked at the Sorceress expectantly.

"Man-at-Arms will explain that you are the best choice to go. After your recent humiliation at being captured by Skeletor, you will be more cautious about the risks you take. The coward act might serve you very well. The world you are going to is very dangerous."

"Wait a second. World?" Adam asked, as the book floated into his hands.

"Yes, Prince Adam. You will be travelling to another world. If you can, you must convince that girl to come here to Greyskull, so I can figure out what her link to the castle is," the Sorceress said.

Adam looked at Man-at-Arms and shrugged helplessly.

"Sorceress, you know that Randor is going to insist on someone going with Adam," Man-at-Arms said.

"I am aware of that. The choices are limited on who can go with Adam," the Sorceress said. "The world does not have technological items and some of the others would attract too much attention, because of their non-human appearance."

"Teela, Ramman, and myself are the only ones left," Man-at-Arms said. "Ramman is a bit to blunt for this kind of mission."

"You have to stay here Man-at-Arms in case Skeletor does something."

Adam groaned and looked to one side. "Oh boy. An entire mission of hearing Teela gripe at me."

"Remember Adam, the cowardly prince has a better chance at succeeding in this mission than a brave person does," the Sorceress stated.

Adam just shook his head, as he turned away and walked back to the entrance of Greyskull.

Back at the palace of Eternia, Man-at-Arms was filling King Randor in on the mission that Adam needed to go on. Teela stepped behind Adam and snickered.

"So, it seems that being a coward makes you the best choice at going on this mission," Teela said.

"Yeah and unfortunately you're the one who'll be going with me," Adam said. "Something about technology not being common on that other world. Hmm. Maybe I can convince father to allow Orko to accompany me."

Teela glared at Adam. "Right. And the first time he casts a spell, you'll be in worse trouble than before."

There was a bit of argument between King Randor and Man-at-Arms, but the king reluctantly agreed to send Adam on the mission with Teela acting as his bodyguard. Man-at-Arms handed Adam two talismans. One was a bright blue and the other was black and had a glowing red arrow in the center.

"The black talisman will point the way first to the tome and then to the person you are supposed to give the books to. The blue talisman will transport you and anyone within a ten-foot radius to that world and then back to this one. It only has the power to make the two trips," Man-at-Arms said and gave the instructions on how to activate the talismans.

"You know father, you never did tell us who came up with this mission," Teela said.

"In time, that will be revealed, but not now," Man-at-Arms replied. "It is the same person who dispatched He-Man to protect Eternia."

Adam took the two amulets and looked at them.

"Well Teela, ready to go?" Adam asked in a sorrowful tone.

"I'm not happy about his either your highness. Let's get this over with."

Adam raised the blue talisman above his head. He and Teela vanished in a ball of light. A small robot beamed what it saw all the way to Snake Mountain in the Dark Hemisphere.
