A VERY old man named Julius Caesar died at his vinyards in Italy, where his political enemies all showed up just to make sure he really was dead at last. 0 AD, the year of Caesar's death and ascension to the Roman pantheon. The statue of Julius Caesar, looking down from the tomb, seemed to either be mocking or sharing a private joke to those who attended.
During the Natsume Period, technology developed in great leaps beyond anything that could have been expected. With their steamships, and later on refined-naptha-engines, their ships ruled the waves and maintained trade routes that were the envy of other nations. The Roman Republic in a set of wars that occurred from 0 AD through 116 AD grew to dominate even further than ever.
Trade with China had been sporadic but with the continued refinements that First Apprentice Korisa developed during her lifetime, the ships continued to increase in speed and range.
In the year 118 AD, Nadsumeh was officially added to the Roman pantheon as the Hand Of Vulcan - sent to Caesar to teach Rome how to better themselves.
It had been a disappointment to go to the land of Neehaun and find something other than the gleaming towers of glass and horseless carriages that Nadsumeh had described, but that was left to another generation.
Neither Ranma nor Genma knew any of this.
What they DID know, as they sat on a bus heading for the city, was that the ads were a bit strange.
There were ads in Chinese, Japanese, and Latin. Only the ones in Japanese were legible and not by much.
Little Ranma's eyes flicked from one ad to another, looking at the pictures. Flying motorcycles? Power armor? Space stations?
Genma grumbled at the strange characters, and why was everyone else on this bus wearing such odd clothing? Well, at least riding the bus was free. One of his favorite words. That banner proclaiming "2100 years of Cooperation Between Rome And China" was a bit strange.
