As Ash Ketchum rode in the back of the hovertruck, he thought back to his friends he left behind. He wanted to see if he could handle being on his own for a little while and get some decent training in.
"Pika," Pikachu called weakly from Ash's backpack.
"Here, Pikachu. Have a bit of water," Ash said, as he handed his Pokemon a small bottle of water.
"Pika-pika," the yellow Pokemon replied and took some drinks from the water bottle.
Ash looked at the rolling hills and shook his head. "The gang has better things to do than to baby-sit me. I've got two months before the tournament. I might as well get some decent training in. Phenac City and its stadium is our first stop, then we find out where Mount Battle is."
Pikachu shook his head, disagreeing with Ash about the gang.
The hovertruck stopped a bit outside the walls of Phenac City. Ash got off the back of the truck and waved to the couple who gave him a lift.
"Thanks," Ash called.
"You're welcome. We're heading off to help in the construction going on at Gateon Port," the man called.
Ash waved his good-byes and the hovertruck left. Taking a look around, Ash noticed that Phenac City had a wall around it and a river of water flowed along the top of the wall. Ash saw that Wes fellow stretching a bit, as he walked away from his bike and headed into Phenac. For some reason, Wes stopped and looked amused at something.
"Quit yer squirming," one voice called out.
A muffled girl's voice was heard. "Help!"
"I thought you taped her mouth shut," another male voice was heard.
"I did," the first voice, which Ash identified as that Trudly person from the Outskirt stand.
"Uh oh. I think we've been seen," the second voice called. Folly was his name if Ash recalled correctly.
"What is going on here?" Ash muttered.
Ash saw Wes casually lean against the side of Phenac's entrance and stare at Trudly and Folly.
Trudly walked forward. "It's too bad that you heard that. Now, you are going to be taught a lesson in staying out of our business."
Wes snorted and pulled out two Pokeballs. Trudly immediately tossed two Pokeballs and two Pokemon came out. Wes replied in kind. Ash pulled out his Pokedex and pointed it at the four Pokemon.
