It was not supposed to have creatures from Japanese myth scattered about. Obake could be found in all sorts of odd places.
Some were friendly. Some were aloof. Some were afraid of humanity. Some hated humanity. It all depended on what type of creature, and in many cases the individual creature.
All friendly creatures, ranging from abura-sumashi to zashiki-warashi, had an Anchor. In some cases this was a home, in other cases this was a person. Something that they clung to in some fashion, that made them somehow more "human" if you could call it that.
All unfriendly creatures lacked an Anchor. It was one of the ways the common human folk could tell if this was a good obake or a bad one. Not that some varieties of creature weren't all bad - nobody was going to hold their breath looking for a nice yama-uba or a kindly nukekubi.
It was into this world, in the year 999 AD by Western calendars, that a segment of Japan vanished and was replaced with a future variation of Japan.
The yosei investigating the strange occurrance flew off to inform the nearby villages about the strange women who had just appeared. With one exception.
The Sailor Senshi reunited, still in civilian guise.
"What happened?" asked Usagi, making a gesture. "The sky lit up, the ground lurched, I mean something happened."
"That was a time/space rip," reported Ami, looking at the display again. "Roughly a sphere ten miles across. We're no longer in the same universe."
"So can we Sailor Teleport back?" asked Usagi, thinking that was the most obvious way of fixing the problem.
"If we do that, won't that leave all these people here?" asked Rei, gesturing at the crowd they'd just gone down the beach from.
"Uhm, that's not a butterfly, is it?" asked Makoto.
The other Senshi blinked and looked up at what Makoto was staring at. Lit from within by a soft rose color, a naked girl with butterfly wings was staring at the Mercury Computer. That she was all of eight inches height was also duly noted.
Minako began to sing something she heard from the old "Mothra" movie, only breaking off when Rei elbowed her and pulled out a handful of spirit wards with the other hand.
The little spy shot away from them, weaving and ducking through the crowd. The Senshi quickly lost sight of it, only being able to follow its progress by the squeals and noises various girls made when confronted by such a thing.
