The movement slowed at one point and something broke the water. A small island thought some of those who saw it. Those who noted the eyes looking up and down the coastline merely assurred themselves that they were imagining things.
Finally the waters geysered up, revealing that someone had swum all the way from China and had arrived home.
GreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeAUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN! (Okay, anyone mind clearing me a path?)
Most of those on the beach, along the boardwalk, in the rustic seaside inn, and at various other places nearby did something completely natural on seeing some 900 foot tall bipedal lizard walking towards them.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" Screamed and ran. Some reactions were perfectly understandable.
Of course, there were those who fainted. Those who stood their ground and took pictures. Others who just laughed a strained little laugh and tried to ignore what was happening.
Some of those not running around in a panic were struck by something that might have been considered atypical behavior for this particular kaiju. As one didn't expect Gojira to be peering at the ground, walking tiptoe with his tail raised, and stepping only where he could see empty spaces.
Since this was just a little get together at the beach among friends, there were some who reached for henshin pens by reflex but didn't evoke them because they were having a little trouble with this scenario.
Usagi practically wet herself as she saw the large foot pause overhead, then swing over to the side before coming down with an impact that shook the ground. She watched, legs sprawled, mouth open, staring as the big lizard apparently decided not to reduce her to jelly with his foot.
The other Senshi were likewise a little rattled. Not only was this something a lot bigger than their usual menaces, it was GOJIRA!
"Usagi? Usagi?! Usagi?!!" asked Makoto.
Eyes still a bit glazed, Usagi Tsukino turned to her friends and pointed in the general direction of her near death. "That was... gojira-sama."
"'sama'?" asked Rei.
"BIG," said Minako. "Big. Way big."
Of course, they were the champions of love and justice. Magical girls who didn't know the meaning of fear.
"My legs won't move," said Usagi.
"I'm still shaking," said Minako. "I just saw my life pass in front of my eyes. I want a 'do over'."
"He's getting away," noted Makoto, sounding a little relieved despite herself.
"Mako-chan, I don't think he's going to hide," said Minako. "Just... give me a minute."
"Did anyone else think that Gojira-san stepped over us on purpose?" asked Ami.
There were some looks among the group.
"Now that you mention it," said Rei.
"Could this be a new menace?" asked Makoto. "One that brings movie monsters to life?"
"It does seem likely, it's just not typical behavior for a menace," opined Ami.
POOM POOM POOM POOM!
"GreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGH!"
"The JSDF is attacking Gojira, don't they know that NEVER works," scoffed Minako.
"We're attacking Gojira?! Come on, that NEVER works!" said the pilot of one of the attacking jets.
"This isn't the movies!"
"Excuse me, but there's a 100 meter tall lizard walking through... is he tiptoeing?!"
The jets flew by again.
"Son of a *$#@#. He IS tiptoeing. He's actually just stepping on the roads, not on the buildings."
"Do we really want to hit him with missiles when he's doing that? I mean if we knock him off balance he could take out a couple of city blocks," pointed out the first pilot.
"Good point."
"We'll wait till he gets to that hill, THEN use our missiles."
The first pilot saw something else. "Uhm. Did Gojira just wave at us and give a peace sign?"
"He's a monster! It's got to be a trick. Besides, even if he's avoiding the buildings, just look at the damage to the streets."
The first pilot sighed. Looked like there was no way out of it. He'd just have to hope it went better than those movies.
