It was an old story, one repeated several times in any given generation - particularly when different genders were involved in the participants. When friendly rivals were a boy and a girl, over the course of a year something other than rivalry could come to the fore.
Something had.
They had just started out with a date, mainly because others did it and they were comfortable with each other's presence - long sparring and training sessions having settled some familiarity over the previous semester. The date had been stiffly formal to begin with, then they'd gone to this bookstore and had an eye-opening experience.
Ranma had seen 'Special Techniques' in a title and had eagerly flipped open the book. Except that it had involved KISSING. Hmmm. Did this do something special?
Ranma had found Makoto... agreeable to a quick experiment, and he discovered that the author of the book did know something about what he was talking about. Three hot kisses along her neck, with a slight nibble there along the pulse (which had become fairly quick and strong) had seemingly stolen Makoto's strength. Certainly she had sagged at that. Now the book had said that if you did this pressure point manuever like so...
Makoto's neck arched and she gasped wide-eyed.
Ranma stopped after a few moments and Makoto got her breath back.
Ranma thought about it for awhile, but it had occurred to him that even if this WAS some kind of martial arts manuever - it was too likely to cause problems if he tried it with someone who was NOT as good a friend as Makoto was.
"RANMA SAOTOME, AT LAST I HAVE FOUND YOU. PREPARE TO -URKKKK!"
Having found Ranma leaping away, stammering apologies, Makoto had reacted to the interruption by belting said interruption. Where the little lightning bolts around her fist had come from - she wasn't sure. She thought it added a certain dramatic impact though.
Ryoga, when he woke up, would definitely agree about the impact part.
Ranma wondered when Makoto had learned a new manuever, and when she was planning on teaching HIM.
