Setsuna's Fault - 108 Stars: Take One (1) Young Soldier, Add One (1) Princess [Episode 168328]

by Kestral

"Come on, Princess," said Ranma, unsure of how to proceed with this. The Princess Usagi was, after all, a princess. Not only that but a princess who had just seen her parents killed, her people enslaved or scattered or turned into fruit trees, her palace and city reduced to rubble with the wooden stuff burning, and her remaining subjects reduced to one soldier who self-admittedly had a problem with mouthing off to authority figures he didn't respect.

Somehow insulting her to get her mad and out of the funk didn't seem likely to work.

The Princess didn't say a thing, just looked at him with mostly-blank eyes.

Ranma considered this briefly. "First off, we gotta get you some different clothes. If any of those guys are still around, dressing like some princess ain't a good thing."

The Princess didn't say anything, didn't move.

"We're gonna go find some of the others. They musta survived too," said Ranma.

For the briefest of moment, he saw a glimmer of hope in Usagi's eyes and knew he was on the right track.

"Stay right here," said Ranma, eyeing the Princess as he tried to figure out her rough size. "I'll find some clothes." He'd try to disguise her as a guy but he didn't think he'd be able to make that workable. She was too thin, he'd have to whack off her hair cause guys and even normal gals didn't have hair THAT long, and she just wasn't all that tough looking. If he did disguise her as a guy, she'd draw every bully in the area.

Now he just had to find an appropriate outfit.

It took several hours for him to scrounge the remains of the city. When he had finished, he had two backpacks (one of which was missing a strap), some waterskins, enough bread and cheese to last for a few days, and a few outfits for the Princess to try out.

"We'll head to the dwarven citadel first. I know a couple'a guys there, one of 'em fixed my sword up," said Ranma, patting the nagamaki-style blade in its sheath. "I won a couple'a knives off another one. They ain't magic but they're pretty nice. Last time I was there he said he wanted a rematch, so that's an excuse if nothing else."

The Princess looked towards the clothing he'd lain out but didn't seem to actually see it.

Ranma considered that. The shell-shocked look might actually help if there were patrols. Just a survivor girl, not a princess at all. "The outfits were all I could find, but which one you go with - that'll be your disguise. The tavern gal thing looks kinda tattered, but it's clean. Was in a washroom in fact. The second outfit there is one of them maid uniforms from that noble's mansion. Ya remember that kinda fat sleezy guy with the beard? Well, at least the outfit's durable. Looks like he decided to have it made from good durable material to save money in the long run. That's also pretty clean, it was in a broken wardrobe under some rocks but it ain't torn. There's the Traveler's clothes which look a little mussed up. They were in the ruins of some merchant's wagon. Then there's this. It's magic but I can't tell what the magic is. I ain't a mage after all and even if I tried wearin' some girly clothes like that it wouldn't fit and might not tell me what the magic was. It was in that noble's treasure vault on a stand. It's the cleanest of 'em though."

Usagi showed a little more life, inspecting it and finding a strange attraction to the 'costume.' Not that she'd consider wearing it normally. She was more inclined towards one of the other outfits. Though magic clothing was certainly something she was curious about, even if this was:
