Setsuna's Fault - 108 Stars: Temple Of The Dawn Fire, part 2 [Episode 168886]

by Kestral

The temple was located off by itself, protected by a large outer wall with a large wrought iron gate. A little bit beyond the stone wall was the hill with its long stone stairway. Those stairs were marked by red torii and eventually led to the temple itself, which was more a shrine with five buildings dating back almost a thousand years. Stone versions of torii were built on precise locations, making it a primitive observatory. At the Summer Solstice, light from the dawn would fall precisely into a slot of a "shield" before one torii and strike a massive red/pink crystal in the center.

The temple had been important periodically in the history of Siryon and the kingdoms before Siryon. It had survived coups and rebellions, storms and events like the Great Frog Epidemic unscathed.

Ranma frowned as he observed the way the iron gate had been smashed down, the hinges broken.

Several of the great torii had been knocked askew, causing him to walk around them. Some of the fox statues were missing their scarves, and in a few places their heads.

When he got to the top of the stairs, his first thought was that this place was not where he would find allies after all. Then he chided himself for that and began the task of bringing the dead to the pyre area. Fortunately there was wood available, the house and temple had been knocked down and burned, with evidence that both had been pillaged before the fires had been set.

The old priest and his junior/student were laid to rest and Ranma lit the pyre. So much for his allies.

A sound caused him to turn, dropping into a crouch and reaching for the power of his Rune.
