Such an encounter wasn't quite what he had in mind when he'd come to the temple. Instead of finding allies, he had a pretty girl glaring at him as if she wanted him to try something so that she could take out all her anger on him. Oddly enough, there was a bit of familiarity to that, as he was used to girls getting angry at him. In this case, it was from a girl who's long limbed form would have had other boys wishing that she was wearing a miniskirt, rather than the miko's robes that she had on. But, in his case, he just wanted to get along with her at the moment.
Unfortunately, the arrow that she was holding on her bow, ready to be shot into him, said that she was not exactly pleased with his presence. One quick release might have him skewered, and he didn't feel like getting more problems on his head than he already had.
So, he tried to look reassuring and hoped that things would work out.
"Come to finish the job, eh?" the raven haired girl growled at him. with her face covered in dirt and soot, save where tears and her hand had wiped it off.
He could only stare at her. "Who, me?"
"Yes, 'you'. Is there anyone else around?!"
"But I wasn't doing anything...."
"Not at the moment, but you could be here for any one of several reasons. You could be one of those... animals that did this. Or maybe you're a vulture, here to grab what you can...."
"Oh, come on!" Ranma snorted. "I'm not here to do anything bad!"
"Then what about that fire? You might be trying to burn what's left of the temple to ash. Hmmm?"
"It's not that."
"Then what is it?"
"A funeral pyre."
The girl's face turned pale as she realized just what was in that fire. "You went and did that...."
"Pretty much because I didn't think that leaving them there would be good. Miss...."
"My name's Rei," she sniffed imperiously... and then let her shoulders slump a bit. "And that is my job."
"I didn't even know that you were here."
"If you didn't come here to continue the attack, then why are you here?"
"I'm pretty sure that I'm right, and I think that the same guys who did this came to visit my hometown."
"Yours too?"
His expression turned grim. "Only the ones they dragged off survived."
"They...."
"Attacked my home? Sure did."
"Bu... but... if that's the case, then... Why come here?"
"Well, I wanted to go save them, but I figured that coming here, trying to get help, in some way or another. Instead, I found more damage."
Her hold on the drawn bow slipped a little, while:
