10 Rings: Genma to the rescue? [Episode 1689]

by Greyman

“You have no idea with what you’re dealing,” Beryl said furiously and raised her claw. “I will kill you… what now?”

“Pop?” Ranma exclaimed with relief as the fat man burst into the tent.

“Get away from him!” Genma roared and stood tall and proud, despite his bloodied dogi. “Nobody hurts my son but me!” He blinked in confusion as the import of his own words sank in. “Er, that’s not right! Hey, you know what I meant.”

“All I know is that you peasants have no manners at all!” Beryl screeched indignantly. “How dare you interrupt my ranting! Don’t you know that you’re supposed to wait for a lady to finish her speech? None of my evil minions would ever be so rude! You, Sirah, are no better than an animal. So an animal you shall be! Neptune Sea Change!”

Genma had been prepared for some sort of bizarre martial arts technique, and so wasn’t completely surprised when the water cascaded down on him from out of nowhere. A powerful leap, with a tuck and roll, took him out of the spray and beneath the woman’s defenses. His paws shot out at such blinding speeds that it was only the fact that his reach was far shorter than he was expecting which saved her from a severe beating.

Beryl backed away from the enraged and confused beast. She took the opportunity to reason with him. “Unless you make that boy hand over his ring,” she warned, “you will remain a beast forever!”

“Growf?” Genma demanded angrily, proving once again that some things are constant across the multiverse (such as the laziness of fanfic authors to break conventions ;) ).

“Don’t you even think about attacking me again,” Beryl warned. “I’m the only one who can change you back so you’d better do as I say! Get me that ring now!”

For Genma the choice was simple. He was willing to risk his son’s life for the sake of the art, but not his own humanity for a girl. Besides, that Saturn girl had already proven to be a problem. He rushed over to the boy, picked him up with one paw, held out the other, and growled an order that couldn’t be mistaken.
