He floated beyond the edge of the mesosphere, about eighty-five kilometres above mean sea level, clearly unbothered by the lack of air or warmth that would have been necessary to keep any normal Earth human alive. Arms crossed in front of him, he kept his eyes closed as he allowed his powerful mind to reach out and probe the mass of humanity below him.
Had he actually been born of the planet where he gained his abilities, no doubt, the many prejudices -- and yes, the Yizibajohei did have them still despite it being well over two millennia since the Dawn of Power -- concerning "norms" would cloud his outlook towards the people far below his feet. Fortunately, the Conservator had chosen well when it came time for a Destructo to arise.
The man now calling himself "Doctor Destructo" had been born as Grigori Stefan Wysynski in Oswiecim, a town west of Kraków in Poland, in the Earth year 1932 CE.
Recalling his long life before that day, sometime after his sixtieth birthday, when he stood before the Crystal of Power on Yiziba -- his body then infused with poisonous ebony meson crystals that would have eventually killed him -- the Doctor tried not to sigh.
Was it his own choices that had led the Shepherd to bring him to Yiziba?
Was it simple Fate?
Was it the Crystal's ultimate influence on Fate?
Shaking his head to stop his unnecessary -- yet natural -- introspection, he opened his burning eyes to gaze once more on the world below him. His mind then focused on one interesting individual below.
Smiling, the Doctor then allowed himself to warp down towards . . .
